Portable Backup & Editing System for Any Camera, 256GB

This product performed better than I could have ever imagined. It's the perfect child from a Server/Hard Drive/Ediing Software combination. No matter the trip it has always done great! Cold, Snow, Sand, Dirt and Kids! I'm an adventurous snowboarding instructor who lives in Utah and loves to travel. Whether it's a frozen backcountry spilt-boarding tour, a sandy beach with the family or a 5-day deep backpacking trip. GnarBox gives me the comfort to take all the photos and video I want with no worries about losing the data or needing to back up. I use a combination of the Sony a6300, GoPro Hero 5 and DJI Mavic Pro. With the Gnarbox I don't need to have as many SD cards on hand or my laptop even with me. On my longer trips with no power, I was able to daily download my SD cards and review the day's photos and videos. The battery lasted 6 DAYS!!!!! Then upon return, a quick hook up to my computer and the files were neatly transferred to my main HD. So if you think you need this YOU DO! Traveling Europe? Going outta town, leaving power behind or just want a great way to quickly edit and post! This is EXACTLY what you need!- The Photo is from Red Castle Lake, High Uintas Utah. It's 11 Miles in and we were there for 4 days! GnarBox made it possible to take all the videos and photos I wanted with no worries of losing data or not having SD space.

Ive had my GNARBOX for a few weeks now and feel I can properly review it. Im using it with a Samsung NX30 mirrorless camera, a GoPro Hero5 Black, a Samsung Galaxy S5, and a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Using the device is super simple and user friendly. I have no problem connecting my phone/tablet or memory cards and transfer speeds are super quick.Im using the GNARBOX as a rugged and mobile card reader, backup drive, power supply, organizing photos for export, and for simple edits of GoPro footage. What I'm not using it for is for any real photo or video editing. My phone/tablet and the app Photomate R3 can handle RAW photo editing just fine and Kinemaster is a far superior video editor (albeit that my current outdated phone/tablet cant handle anything over 1080p 30fps).Im kind of disappointed with this. The hardware is awesome, I love the ruggedized body since I bought this to bring backpacking. I really like the idea of a portable high quality photo editor, but Im mostly a photographer and for me to give it 4 or 5 stars I would need to see some big improvements to the software (features similar to photomate r3 and maybe even masks or brushes). Right now it just doesnt feel like its worth quite $300 since im barely using its processing potential. Luckily all this could be fixed through firmware updates and it seems like the company is keeping up on development so far. We'll see, I really hope to be able to come back and edit this review.

I’ve honestly never been compelled to write a product review, but the completely abysmal performance of the GNARBOX has forced me to write one. I felt it only fair to warn other working video professionals that this device fundamentally does not work as promised and completely failed on me.In theory this device is the dream — being able to backup cards to external drives in the field, without a computer. Unfortunately, the GNARBOX does not actually do this. Had I not been able to borrow a MacBook, I would’ve been completely screwed not being to backup cards on a weeklong international production. Sure, you could say that it’s my fault for not putting the GNARBOX through its paces prior to the trip, and you would be right. But at $300 I assumed this device would actually work, boy was I mistaken..I was shooting on a GH5 in 4K, 10-bit, 4:2:2, a data heavy codec, so I was filling my cards fairly quickly. I brought enough media for two days of shooting, without dumping, and planned to dump cards a few times over the week. When it came time to backup, the GNARBOX simply did not work — whenever I tried to initiate a backup, the transfer would get to 30-40% then the device would freeze and reboot, obviously not completing the transfer; there was no way to determine which files successfully transfered / those that didn’t make it. I’m very fortunate that the repeated abrupt ejection of the cards did not corrupt them.Whatever the case, I don’t recommend this device to any working professional who needs a portable backup device. Sure, it’s fine if you’re going skiing and want to backup your GoPro, but I certainly don’t recommend it for paid work. It’s too bad that GNARBOX has all these people on the internet spouting the performance and dependability of its product, when in reality, it’s a completely dud.

Killer way to edit video. Mine tends to struggle with editing video that is 10min. It is a very functional mobile storage transfer system. The editing is a bit hit and miss. With that stated, I would buy it over again given it's portability, durability and convince. I hope the firmware upgrades address the bugs and the software is better for editing. DO NOT PURCHASE if you want to use it as a primary editor. It is way to limited.

Arrived super fast! Easy to set up, had some issues with my gears compatibility and tech support was ace and speedy at helping me out with it. Everything is awesome, the only thing I can use a bit better was the editing software, but there is option to export into other more familiar editors to edit the RAW files. And tech took my impute for future software updates that they are working on. Was great to get my work edited and posted hours and days before the competition. Standing in the dirt on the side of a mountain, shoot, edit and post in minutes! Gets toasty when transferring large amounts of files, so don't stash it inside a bag or pocket.

J'ai été un peu déçu, car les photos de l'annonce laissaient penser que l'appareil possédait un écran de contrôle, or, il n'en est rien. Je cherchais un appareil pour décharger simplement mes cartes SD; Ce n'est pas le cas. Toutefois, bien que complexe, en utilisant son smartphone, on arrive à s'en servir.
