It depends on your placement whether they use them or your furniture. I have 1 next to the coffee table in the living room that gets used a lot. 1 in the bedroom next to the front of a dresser, that gets used when they walk by and 1 next to the bedroom door that gets used as well. The colors are vibrant and beautiful the size is big enough for large cats and the quality is good. I didn't notice a smell. Easy to assemble with weight on the bottom for standing durability. Occasionally when the cats are feeling frisky, they will claw like crazy and slightly lift or tilt the trees. The only damage they have done is start to unravel the twine around the ball.
