Great gray coverage but darker than most 6N’s
Years ago I thought I remembered buying a John Frieda foam hair color that was in an aerosol type can. It was awesome because you only used the amount you needed. Those of us with short hair, could get two applications out of one box of hair color, loved this easy to use hair color. I hadn’t bought John Frieda in many years. I saw this on a subscribe and save option and it was very affordable. Unfortunately, this does not come in an aerosole can. I tried the color formula 6N, light natural brown. Normally, this is the box color I choose, or I prefer a light ash brown. This John Frieda kit involves mixing two bottles together, shake and apply. It's easy to mix and use but not what I thought I was buying from years ago. It comes with two disposable gloves and a tube of conditioner. You actually squeeze the applicator bottle and it produces a light and airy foam you apply to your scalp. Leave the foam on for the approximate amount of minutes determined by the instructions. I left it on for 15 minutes and then pulled through my roots for another 10 minutes as my grays are stubborn. The foam does not drip like other hair coloring kits. This provided excellent gray coverage, however, my hair color came out much darker than I’m used to. I feel like it’s a medium brown. It’s very rich looking, just darker than I like. If I try again I will leave in less time but I am afraid it won’t cover my grays. A week and 2 blue shampoo washes later the color is softening and fading, I’m liking the color better. I think the product performs well and does not have an offensive odor. The next lighter color looks too blonde for me:( I do wish they had a 6.5N color. I still recommend as the gray coverage is better than any other box color I have tried.

The color I've been searching for for a year, plus much faster easier process & amazing results
I am a Natural Redhead but since I was a teenager, I've preferred my hair a shade or 2 darker than my natural hair color. So, I started dying it. For years, I used the color Ruby Fusion by Loreal, but as I became older (will be 40 in a couple months), I noticed this color is a bit too dark now, looking a tad harsh. So this was the painful start of my search for my new perfect shade of Red. I've tried about 4 different shades from different brands but every time I was disappointed which was hard b/c I had to go at least 2 months with a hair color I wasn't happy with. I accidentally stumbled across this foam dye which is what originally caught my interest.. It was the first time I've seen a foam permanent dye. The second thing to grab my attention was that it is A John Frieda product and I love and trust this brand's products. I use many of their hair styling products and treatments for fine, thin hair. So, I perused the colors and decided to try the Radiant Red. 1st let me talk about the dye itself. I read the directions carefully (I highly suggest you do the same if this is new to you). They were simple to follow, the biggest adjustment was dispensing the dye into my hand versus directly to my scalp but the foam application was effective, a bit quicker than the traditional dyes, and I was able to compeletely saturate my hair in half the normal time. Do be sure to immediately wipe away any dye you may have gotten on the skin around your hairline b/c it will slightly stain. And I can't forget to mention how this method was mess free... No dripping or errant steaks of due found afterwards on the Bathroom floor or sink. I left it on for 25 min then entered the shower where I thoroughly rinsed and applied the conditioner that is included in the box (I was impressed by the size of the bottle compared to the tiny ones in most brands) it is suggested you continue to use this conditioner once a week after dying. So, nothing left to do now but to reveal the final results. I was a bit impatient so after towel drying, I used the blow dryer and what I saw was almost to good to be true. It was literally the result I've been trying to achieve. I was a little nervous though b/c in my experience, the color tends to lighten with the first couple washes. Well, I've washed my hair 3 times since and the color is just as deep and vibrant as it was the night I did it. I am absolutely in love and I pray that this she and particular color remain available for A LONG time b/c after finding my perfect match the last thing I want to do is go through an the hassle and disappointment I did before now. Also, after falling in love with the John Frieda Clear Glazing Treatment, I also purchased the glaze in the color Red in hopes it will extend the time between coloring my hair by keeping the red in my hair vibrant and refreshed along with the other benefits from the glaze. I have high hopes for it judging from my experiencing with this line of products thus far. So in short... This is now my go to hair dye without question and would recommend it to anyone if they find it in a color suitable for them.

Easiest Dye Job At Home
I've been using this product since I was in my 20s when I started to notice a few grays. I also just loved the color of this dye instead of my boring jet black hair. I used to be asked if my hair color was my natural hair color because it's a beautiful chocolate shade that looks natural, but has a beautiful sheen when the sun shines on it. I noticed that my hair sheds less with this product and my hair seems to be healthier and less damaged as well. I credit it to the gentleness of the foam. It also has less of a strong ammonia smell although it still does have it. I make a lot less mess with the foam too. The foam dye isn't splashed onto every random wall in the bathroom, because it foams instead of "farts dye onto your hair and walls". The biggest pro is that this is easier to use than your regular dye-at-home job because it foams and has a better coverage. There's less chance of you missing a spot with the foam. I have super thick, straight, black hair. I thought this wouldn't work with my black hair, but surprisingly it does. It's not super obvious color on my hair, but I don't want it to be. I want it to look like it could be my natural hair color. I've been dying my hair since I was a teenager and the regular dyes were a bit more work. You have to make sure you do it correctly with a regular dye otherwise you might miss a spot. I also used to have long hair so I used to need at least 2 boxes with regular dyes. This product makes it possible to use only 1 box and have my whole head colored. Now I'm 33 and I can no longer deny I have premature graying. I have to dye my hair now or I'd look 50 years beautiful. Nothing wrong with 50, I just want to enjoy my 30s as I'm supposed to. After all, we are only 30s for a few years and never again. A lot of my hair from the sides of my head is now white and I have to dye my hair about every 2 to 3 weeks to hide it from my husband who is now home 24/7 thanks to this 2020 pandemic. He swears he hasn't seen any grays in my head, but that's because Amazon has saved me a lot with having this dye on subscription for me every month. I did notice though that I have some stubborn grays that won't dye with this even when I leave it on for 45 minutes. It's definitely a new challenge, but it looks to dye most of my grays well enough. I just need to make sure I really cover every white hair with foam completely and for the full 45 minutes. So for now, this is still my go-to dye for my hair. I haven't looked "rough" yet during this pandemic, fortunately. I get my hair color done by myself. As well as my lashes (diy extensions), I also wax myself already before the pandemic, and I tried nail on glue for the very first time this year. If you find this review helpful, please click on the "helpful" tab. I noticed that many of the popular products on Amazon has tons of positive reviews, but the product turns out to be a disappointment. Negative reviews are buried under. I think some of the Chinese sellers have figured out that most of us rely on positive reviews so they've managed to fake tons of it to sell more product. So I'm starting to review products on Amazon and anywhere else online that I buy to help combat that. This is a genuine unpaid positive review and I want to make sure people know which products they can rely on. Thank you.

Color great- Messy foam
Love the color, got really messy for me though. Foam does not make it easier than regular dye. I wish it did… which is why I bought it. So if you’re buying it because you think it’s less messy and easier… don’t. If you’re buying it for the color… do it!

Quality
I love this foam hair dye. It last as long as any other product and the color is spot on. I have been using it for years.

Perfect for TONING blonde hair!
This is a product that I have bought about 30 times and I continue to buy. I don't actually purchase it for the purpose of "dying my hair", but rather for toning it. I don't have the patience for purple toners after I almost turned my hair blue one time. I have the color of hair that is on the box, but sadly I live in Florida which has multiple things that will turn blonde hair all different kinds of colors. Chlorine will turn hair green. Sun will bleach it more, and not in a good way. Hard city water leaves deposits which turn orange over time. Yuck. This product is lovely. -So easy to apply. It's foam so you can see where it goes as you put it on, and the bottle is deceptive, so even with a TON of hair like me, you can use one bottle to cover your entire head. I used to have to buy two boxes of a similar product which wasn't foam to cover my entire head. This is less costly when you consider this although it seems more expensive from the get go. -The color on the box is actually what you get. I can't say that this will be the case if you are very dark haired, but in general you should stay within 2 shades (darker or lighter) anyway before consulting a professional anyway to avoid color disasters. -20 minutes, "set it and forget it!" and then shower. The conditioner that comes with this color is pure gold. So much so, John Frieda started selling it separately from the color because it's so concentrated and luscious it helps repair damaged hair. Careful though-it will leave hair greasy if you don't wash it out well or use too much. Also there is a clear serum that you can use that is a relatively new addition which is more of a shine booster, seems to work well but I don't notice a ton of difference overall. I will continue to use this forever. I am a little salty about the fact that they technically discontinued my color (9A) a few months ago, but this color is basically identical. It is impossible to find at anywhere other than stores near Ulta near me since there is nobody who is blonde apparently. Unless you want bleach. I set this on a subscription for monthly delivery-easy as pie!

Such hair color. Wow, foam. Very ammonia. So mess. Amaze.
I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff, which will be expressed in this review. First, to give you some context as to why I use this junk: I'm 25 years old, I'm a poor grad student, and I'm super self-conscious 'bout my grays, which reside in my large quantity of long thick hair. This stuff, while I have my complaints, is cheap and the color comes out nice. I use this crap about every 3 or 4 months, using a root touch up product about every 3 weeks in between the John Frieda torture sessions. So like I said, I have a LOT of hair. I mean, a lot. This is something hair stylists from all walks of life, ages, and experience always comment on, as if I don't already know. So, I must use TWO boxes of John Frieda. That's just the beginning of my troubles. But the point of this complaint is to let you know that if you have long, thick hair, don't be a dummy and think ONE box will suffice. You must use TWO. Next is the mess factor. This stuff is a mess. And it stains. It might be marketed as "non-drip" but that does not mean it is "non-fling, all over yourself and your bathroom". From past color sessions, I have lovely, permanent dark spots from this dye on my bathroom sink faucet handles, floor, toilet and walls. Armed with the knowledge that this dye is a hot mess, I now take many precautions when I color. I have a special t-shirt that I dedicate to John Frieda hair color sessions. I line my sink with the hair color instructions. I put a towel on the floor. Sometimes. When I remember. Actually I've never done that but I really should. Granted, with my insane quantity of hair, its hard to prevent a mess when dying. But really, the foam just flings everywhere and it is *really* annoying. Oh, and it stinks! It really stinks. Ammonia, for real. My bathroom is not well-ventilated, and sometimes I feel like I'm going to have a fainting spell when I'm coloring my hair. Either that or I feel like I might puke. Its never happened, but, you know, its always a threat. Having said all that, I try to have fun when I color my hair. I listen to music. I use the foam to write things on my head. I put my hair in a big bun on my head and swirl the foam around it and pretend I'm a human cinnamon roll. I consider what I'll write in my Amazon review. At the end of the session, I clip my hair in an 1800's 'do that I don't normally have the opportunity to sport. Then I clean up all the damn foam on my skin, sink, walls, floor, etc, and chill out for a half an hour, writing that Amazon review I dreamed up while dying. Ahem. dyeing. Or coloring, whatever. I actually dread using this stuff for the above reasons, but like I said, I like the even color that it delivers and I'm too chicken to try anything else. However, if you know of a better hair dye for thick-haired freaks like me, please do let me know, and I hope you found this review balanced, honest, and helpful.

SHINY HAIR !!
I love this brand of hair colour, and I have been using it for years, because of how shiny it makes my hair [Sorry for the olde photo that shows my hair BEFORE I dyed it]. WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS KIT IS: ▪︎I leave my workspace while using it much less messy because the foam is so spill/splatter proof, as opposed to a liquid dye of other brands. If I do get a random spot of the dye anywhere, I just use a spot of Dawn on it asap and then no worries. ▪︎I've got long hair, so I use the entire contents, and I've got some noticeable grey hair, so I leave it on for the full 30 min. that the instructions say to. ▪︎After you have applied the foam, be sure to not skip lathering all of it up close on your scalp with your hands and fingers as well as the lengths of your hair, this way, you get full and uniform coverage and you've got a better chance of leaving no obvious undyed patches. Super important ! ▪︎It also has no strong chemical odor that can potentially cause you to tip over into an unconscious coma. ▪︎If it's your 1st time using it, the foam will not dispense from the bottle if you try to depress the black nozzle on the top of the bottle. You have got to very SLOWLY and SOFTLY turn the bottle upside down and then right side up for no more than 5 times. No fast, vigorous shaking of the bottle. That may be why some women are getting just liquid instead of the foam, IDK. Direct that question to John Frieda's cust. service. ▪︎Squeeze the MIDDLE of the see•through part of the bottle in order to render the foam. So NO fast, vigorous shaking and squeeze it from the CENTRE of the see through bottle, just like the instructions explain. ▪︎As long as you follow the instructions, you'll be fine. The shine payoff of this brand is what puts it above and beyond other home colouring kits. If you do not get the shine payoff after using it, maybe a previous process/product that is still in your hair is not letting the dye absorb uniformly or treat your hair evenly ? IDK, ASK YOUR HAIR STYLIST. ▪︎For my own hair, the shine does not remain in my hair for the full 6-8 weeks that the colour lasts, but it does leave my hair shiny for atleast 3-4 weeks. ▪︎Don't forget to use the after care conditioning tube, immediately after dying and then once a week for maintenance. I trust this vendor to get things right, and I would not hesitate to purchase from them again ! I hope anyone reading this will get the same experience as I do !
