Falconry & Hawking [Glasier, Phillip] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Falconry & Hawking Review: Updated classic authority on falconry - Masterly written in an easy to understand for non-experts and experts. The flow of writing covering topics to topics is able to facilitate a newbie's learning about the world and art of falconry in a natural way. The salient points are revealed free of jargons and complicated explanations as author don't beat around the bush. Topics dealt with are also quite wide, from understanding of the birds' needs to recommendations of making and building one's own aviary and falconry equipment, with diagrams to help and tips from the author's personal set up and preference for doing things the way that are best based on his extensive years of experience. Before training the birds, the basic tip on choice of which kind of raptor is also important to match the falconer's temperament and capability, and this provides an interesting information on the birds' habit and flying capabilities. Also where ever it differs, author gives comparisons with the sport in the USA, which contrast with England in terms of vast expanse of land that suit certain kinds of falcons or hawks, such as the larger ones. Book is in great clean condition and arrived well. Review: An excellent book for aspiring apprentice falconers - This book contains practically everything you need to know about flying long wings, short wings, and ways to hunt many different kinds of game. It's got sections on how to make your own equipment, information about raptor diseases, and how to train your falcon/hawk from the moment you first capture it to a lean mean hunting machine(just an expression of course). This was an enjoyable book to read and it's going to serve as a useful reference to read for a long time. I bought this book as a way to have as much information as posssible in one location, and the price I got it at made this a valuable book.

Falconry & Hawking by Phillip Glasier
I knew very little about Falconry but after reading all the C.J. Box Books I got interested because there was a Character in the books who was a Falconer. Falconry and Hawking is an amazing book it explains every thing a falconer would need to know and that is an awful lot! I haven't been reading it from beginning to end instead I've been skipping around to different subjects every time I pick the book up but I intend to have read all 322 pages by the time I'm done. Definitely a must have for a beginning Falconer. I ordered my book from Amazon. Barbara Lee Hill

Good Reference and Resource
My husband was interested in eventually getting into falconry. This book was a good way for him to learn more about what he hopes to get involved in some day. It was a great resource to see where he would need to start and what falconry would entail.

Falconry & Hawking by Phillip Glasier
This is an absolute must have for any falconer/hawker. I lost my first copy to my dog and missed it almost immediately. It is a reference book that even experience falconers refer to.

After searching for this book at many brick and mortar retailers, without success, I stumbled upon it on amazon, at half the price advertised by the local bookstore. I bought it almost instantly, and found that it met or exceeded my expectations in every way. The level of detail the author goes into is amazing, with both color and black and white photographs illustrating the birds themselves, lure swinging techniques, feeding habits and medical conditions. It quickly becomes clear the love for both the birds and the sport that Phillip Glasier puts in to this book, and I can easily reccomend it as a must read for both beginning and seasoned falconers alike.

I was a complete novice when it come to falconry. I bought this book to give me a better idea and insight in to this ancient skill. This book is not only very detailed but has many sketches and photos to assist your understanding. It is obvious that it has been reprinted, but more modern techniques have been added as each print had been done. I'm very happy with this book, and no longer feel like a complete novice when speaking to time served falconers. But please don't think that after reading one book that you know enough to keep and fly a bird of prey, it's just a very good start in to the world of falconry.
