Great improvement. I love it.
I have been using the Pro 2 for three years now. I scan big buildings (10K to 60K SqFt). I bought the Pro 3 one month ago and It is really a great improvement. Much faster and more accurate. The fact that you can scan the exteriors is awesome. The design is pretty nice. I don't like that it has a little lid to cover the lens because when you take it off, it does not stick to the camera so it is easy to lose. Also, the cover should have space to put the battery so you can store the camera without the battery on (as recommended by Matterport). But those are just some minor design suggestions. I will keep trying it and update if I found any downsides, but so far a love it.

Unexpected Noise: My Surprising Experience with my New Matterport Pro 3 Camera
As a longstanding advocate and user of Matterport products, my recent investment in the Pro 2 and Pro 3 models underscores my commitment to their technology. However, I have encountered a concern regarding the Pro 3 model that I wish to address. Upon usage, I noticed that the camera operates with a noise level that is noticeably higher than anticipated. This observation stands in contrast to other demonstrations of the same model, where the camera appeared to function more quietly. In light of this discrepancy, I am seeking clarification: Is the noise level I am experiencing typical for the Pro 3 model, or does it indicate a potential issue that requires attention and resolution? Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Good data. Glitchy functionality.
My firm has been using Matterport cameras for several years now, and invested in the Pro3 setup due to our need for point cloud data. Comparing the Pro2 and Pro3 cameras, the 2 seems easier to use in the field, as stitching is smoother. The Pro3 has caused hours of delays due inability to align scans when passing through doorways and inside to outside. The ability to manually align scans in the field would be a HUGE help (and frankly is something that Matterport's competitors allow). There are also some app glitches that need to be addressed. Our staff that uses Android devices experiences an issue when their screen rotates, which causes scan alignment to fail. We've only had the Pro3 for a couple weeks and haven't used it yet on an iOS device. The point cloud data looks solid so far. Very good for the price point. Note that you're captive on the Matterport platform and rcp and other point cloud files are only available via separate purchase after your scans have been processed. Summary - if you need point cloud data in small to medium spaces then the Pro3 is for you (your next best option is the Leica BLK360 at 3x the price.) If all you're looking for is a virtual tour and you don't need point cloud data, research other options, as there are several less expensive Matterport solutions and tons of competitors in the sub $3,000 price range.

The Matterport Pro3 is a game-changing upgrade from its predecessor, and after extensive use in real-world environments, I can confidently say it delivers on nearly every front. Whether you're in real estate, architecture, construction, or digital twin creation, this camera is built to elevate your professional 3D capture capabilities. First off, the quality and reliability are on a whole new level. Compared to the previous Pro2, the Pro3 handles both indoor and outdoor environments effortlessly. One of the biggest frustrations with earlier models was outdoor scanning—sunlight, temperature, and distance all posed significant limitations. With the Pro3, Matterport has finally solved that. The new LiDAR-based system is incredibly accurate, capable of scanning long distances (up to 100 meters) with exceptional precision, even in daylight. Portability is another massive improvement. The Pro3 is noticeably lighter and smaller than the Pro2, which makes it far easier to carry around, especially during long scanning sessions or when moving between multiple properties. If you're someone who scans frequently or needs to be mobile—this change alone is worth the upgrade. It fits easily into a compact case and sets up in seconds. In terms of scanning performance, it’s clear Matterport put serious work into enhancing speed and fidelity. Scans are faster, point cloud generation is more precise, and the resulting 3D models are smoother and more detailed. You can now cover large commercial or residential properties in a fraction of the time. The accuracy has clearly improved, which makes alignment and processing easier and more reliable. You spend less time fixing alignment issues and more time delivering professional-quality walkthroughs. However, the only real downside—and it's worth noting—is the battery life. The Pro3 battery lasts noticeably less than the Pro2. It’s less than half the capacity, which means you’ll either need to purchase extra batteries or plan your scans accordingly. For small or medium-sized projects, this isn’t a dealbreaker. But for all-day use or larger properties, it's essential to have spares on hand. In terms of cost, yes—it’s a premium-priced piece of equipment. But for professionals, the improvements in performance, portability, and scan accuracy make it a justifiable investment. You're not just buying a camera—you're investing in a complete 3D capture ecosystem that improves efficiency and output quality. Final Verdict: If you're currently using a Matterport Pro2 or any older 3D camera and are on the fence about upgrading, don’t hesitate. The Pro3 is more than just an iteration—it’s a significant evolution. Despite the battery tradeoff, it delivers unparalleled performance in nearly every other category. Matterport has truly pushed the envelope with this one. Highly recommended for professionals who demand quality, speed, and flexibility in their 3D capture workflow.
