'Temporary' fast access to an SSD or 2.5" HDD
A very useful bit of kit, this - enables you to quickly add an SSD (or even a 2.5" HDD) to your PC's storage, rather than opening up the case, etc., etc. For the sake of clarity, although this device will fit onto a 3.5" HDD (since it's a common connector) there's insufficient power available through a standard USB socket to spin a 3.5" HDD drive's motor. If that's what you want, then you'll need to look at some of Sabrent's other products (such as their excellent 'USB 3.0 SATA Hard Drive Flat Docking station') which will do what you want. This one is good and fast (USB 3.1), is well made with a reasonable length of USB 3 cable moulded as part of the connector onto the actual drive. It's useful for both PC and Mac, since it comes with a nifty little adaptor from a standard USB plug to the USB-C variety!! So there you have it - it does just what it says on the tin!! Marvellous!

Perfect little lead that does a great job!
I had an old docking station that used esata in my old PC, which I used for getting data off old hard drives and when I built a new one, esata wasn't an option on my new computer. So I bought this lead to connect some older sata drives via USB 3 so I could get my data off. It works perfectly, and is simple, neat, and tidy. There is a little blue led on the connector to tell you when data is being transferred, and didn't miss a beat. The transfer rate varies, of course, but it all depends on what data you are transferring. I got up to 380MB/s transferring ssd to ssd. It uses an Asmedia 1351 chip, who seem to be making a name for themselves as a very good usb to sata connecting chipmaker. If you have ssd's that need data pulling off, you can't go wrong with this! P. S. I only used a USB 3 socket on my computer, as I didn't have a 3.1 available, but still got great results! Really pleased!

Newer Replacement Adapter Works Great
The adapter I received was faulty as it would not work with the newer USB standards (3.2 Gen 2x1 and 2x2 with speeds 10Gbps and 20Gbps respectively) so I was unable to use it on my laptop that only had these newer ports. It was fine on USB 2.0 and 3.0, albeit at slower speeds. I reached out to Sabrent who were very helpful and sent a replacement adapter. Note that the replacement adapter seems to be of a newer revision. The cable itself feels different and the packaging has been updated (left, white box - old; right, black/blue box - new). I suggest contacting support if you have similar issues. The adapter also comes with a handy USB Type-A (female) to Type-C (male) adapter. I am using this to repurpose my Crucial BX500 as an external SSD for games and additional files. So far so good! I ran a quick CrystalDiskMark benchmark, a screenshot of the results is attached for those interested. Would definitely recommend for those looking for a relatively cheap DIY external SSD solution.

Oh Dear!! My old computer died.
This is a great gadget. I have collected 1000's of photos over the years and mostly stored them on a second hard drive (SSD). I bought one of those small windows computers and can plug this in with the SSD attached and use it like an external drive for working on my photos , docs etc without clogging up the C: drive. Overall, very useful, not expenive and does the job.

Looks cheap. But the quality is amazing.
Simple, robust, plug'n'play, with wonderful speed. Transfer of 300GB (system migration) took some 10 minutes only. I'd say that it is much better than shiny, polished chrome super-something ones. Apart from the obvious fact that it is not designed for travellers - HIGHLY recommended. After several days I had opportunity to use it again. Of course: I transferred my system into SSD, and not HDD is my portable backup. I must say that I am remaining amazed about the quality of this product. Speed of thransfer using hybrid drive and standard HDD is still VERY good, well above my branded WD, Seagate and Samsung portable hard disks. I have no idea why, but it looks really simple and does the job wonderfully.

Just works. Great product.
Just brilliant, I can use this hard drive adapter cable in pc, phone and my android TV. So much easier and more portable than an external caddy.

Excellent speed upgrade from usb 2
So much faster than my previous usb 2 version, if you get the one with usb c adapter it is still lightning quick. Really glad I got it, one of those products that exceeds expectations.

Like the perfect toaster, it just works — flawlessly
I bought the Sabrent EC-SS31 1.5" SATA hard drive/SSD to USB 3.1 adapter to clone the internal 128GB SATA SSDs on three Dell 9020M Optiplexes to new Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSDs at work. The cable came with a USB-C adapter, which I did not use. The end of the year is always busy for our company. We find out if we can buy new toys, how much we get to spend, and push to get it all in before year-end for taxes. This year forced us from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but did not scream, "new computers". Instead the orders were "make what we have better and longer-lived". Wow. We put these boxes in service in December 2012. I had expected to replace them in 2017 but they've performed flawlessly. We maxed out the onboard RAM at the end of 2018. Now increasing storage was key to make this all work — unfortunately I had zero experience cloning drives. Oh, goody. After extensive research I decided to go with the Samsung 860 EVO 1-TB drives to replace the strained 128GB SSDs in the boxes. Reviews, spec tests, etc., all showed the 860 EVO to be superior in all respects regardless of size and 1-TB should give us ample head room for the next 5-7 years as actual data storage is served by a NAS. The userbenchmark.com site was invaluable for this. Having nailed that down the next step was how to connect the drive. The reviews I read here and elsewhere (including the site above) all indicated there were many makers of cabling, but Sabrent kept popping up over-and-over again as successful, no issues, well made, solid, dependable, etc. Shopping sowed pries all over the map, but the only maker that consistently performed well was Sabrent, regardless of price. That's why I elected Sabrent even though it was definitely not the cheapest. The last piece of the puzzle was the software. This was a real challenge, it seems everyone has their own favorite but they all had horror stories and "fixes" that mostly work — usually by hobbyists and gamers. Accronis was well thought of and available from Sabrent. Samsung also makes software specifically for this purpose that is free for use on their drives. That limits the reviews about Samsung's software, but what reviews existed were rock solid. Once I was done I had budgeted for the drives, the cable, the software as a purchase and three days of project time. I figured each machine would be down for anywhere from 3-8 hours. I was so wrong! The Dell's had 128GB Samsung SATA SSDs in them. The Sabrent cable hooked up perfectly. The free Samsung software was sophisticated, polished, easy, flawless, smooth, and fast. I mean really fast. The first box, which I expected to take 4-5 hours including unattended down time just doing the transfer, took 30-minutes including physically swapping the drives after the transfer was done. The transfer itself took under 10-minutes. The only reason that worked was because the Sabrent cable performed flawlessly.
