10/10, Best Infant Horror Story
Neither my husband or I had read this prior to getting this for our 5mo. Our baby enjoys the pictures and it is a nice, chilled out book for bedtime, but... there's something creepy about it. The mysterious "goodnight nobody" feels like it belongs in a horror film - I've honestly started skipping the page because it gives me the willies. Will probably continue read this while I can get away with not completing the incantation and summoning... whatever nobody is.

Ideal bedtime reading
This is a lovely little book. Baby bunny sits in bed in the "great green room" and says goodnight to all the things that are in it, and visible out of the window - the red balloon, the kittens, the teddy bears in the picture on the wall, the stars, the moon, etc. The pictures alternate between brightly coloured (the green room is really, really green) and black and white, and the text is rhythmic and soothing. Ideal for 12 - 30 months. (Or tired mothers after a long day at work.) Postscript: having now read this to 3 children over a number of years, I would recommend it as one of the items you should purchase if you are expecting a baby. Each child I have read it to has loved it. My middle son had rather delayed speech and I noticed that at 2 he was starting to come out with the words of this book - presumably because they are simple and rhythmic and very memorable. A really good book. (Plus of course though this is entirely immoral it is a nice short bed-time book if you are knackered.)

Brilliant, but not for tiny tots
Having bought this on the strength of all the reviews, and loved it myself when it arrived, I was disappointed that my 10 month old grandchild did not love it as well. However, I've come to realise that the seemingly repetitious coloured picture on every other page is very boring for a child who cannot yet understand every word you say to her concerning the page. She loves the other stories by Margarey Wise Brown - in the Runaway Bunny she can point to the baby bunny and the mummy bunny on every page and in My World she can always find the baby bunny wherever he is. If you have the same trouble just bear with it, as I'm going to, and wait till your child/grandchild is a little older. For me, as an adult, I think the nighttime story is lovely and there are so many things to point out to get a child to recognise things(like finding the little mouse on every page for instance). UPDATE. My granddaughter is now 20 months and absolutely loves the book. It was well worth the wait and perseverence. There are so many of the same things on each page that by the time we come to the end I'm sure that part of her delight is feeling that she 'knows' everyone and feels thoroughly acquainted with everything in the room.

What an adorable story. I had never heard of this book until I was invited to my future sister in laws baby shower and we were asked to bring a book instead of a card. This was his favorite book as a child. We hope it's hers too!

The illustrator and author have put together a book that is read for generations. A family's treasure.

This is not the book I am asking for. The cover as advertised is correct in black color, but the one I received is in green. And more importantly, the content inside did not contain the retrospective written up by Leonard Marcus, in addition to the usual Goodnight Moon verses by Margaret Brown. So I checked out the ISBN numbers, and it's different than the one I requested. So it's a big disappointment.

How can anyone review Goodnight Moon? Simply a classic and must have for all little people.
