Teaching Today: A Practical Guide

I was expecting a small, quick guide to teaching when I ordered this book. However....it's a beast. And it's better than I expected. I am new to the teaching world having been promoted to teaching new joiners in the organisation that I work for. This book has provided me with more than enough detail to be able to get myself up and running, with topics presented in an easy to follow format and examples of theories put into practice. I have only just got through chapter 1 but I am already looking forward to chapter 2.

I have previously borrowed the previous edition of this from the library. This is a good book on teaching written in easy to read style. This new edition is larger in size than the previous edition (length and width not thickness) however there is a white space around the text which could now be used for writing notes in. Bought this book as an additional book for more detail used in my PTLLS course, but I can see it will easily be useful for further courses.

Petty is well known to trainee teachers and educators in the PCET setting. It differs from other texts in that it provides practical examples of techniques that can be used in the classroom. From legislation, professional roles and responsibilities to questioning techniques, room layout and assessment for learning, useful for referencing the under pinning knowledge in practice. A great resource.

I needed this for college. A lot more info in it than I needed. So a useful reference tool too. It is a heavy book, paperbound so a bit floppy. Easy to find sections as needed - clear index.

I bought this as a study aid for the level 3 award in education and training. Whilst not a book which is going to supply any model answers it is excellent for understanding the art of teaching. The book informs, in a very accessible fashion, just what it takes to be a teacher in the modern era. I heartily recommend it to anyone who is going to attempt a career in the classroom.

I am enjoying reading this book more than I thought it was. He is a creative thinking practitioner of learning with a lot of interesting ideas and ways of putting across information. It was a good deal getting the book with Amazon Prime (free delivery).

This is an amazing book, written in easy understandable chunks. It has a pot more than previously released versions and love its large size with easy to read print. It covers everything you need to know, I'm currently studying for my pgce in education and it's invaluable. It has diagrams and thought provoking tasks to break up text and 5 chapters in I have learned so much already Highly recommend

This is a great book for anyone starting out in teaching or as a refresher for effective teaching techniques! It has great ideas and activities supported with the theory
