The Beam Store8' Suede Balance Beam

I never thought I would order a balance beam for my child... I always assumed it was more of a luxury item...meaning way too expensive. But the I saw this.. $160 for an 8ft beam. We decided to get it as a bday gift. It wasn't available for prime shipping in 2 days, but I didn't have to pay for shipping either. I thought it would be a few weeks before we got it, but it arrived the same week the order was made.It arrived neatly packaged and assembly was a breeze.. there are 2 legs, each one has 2 screws holding it in, and that's all there is to it.It's in our living room..I thought space might be a concern but the beam is so lightweight that my 4 yr old can maneuver it on her own quite easily.My daughter spends hours every day playing on it...walking back and forth, forwards, backwards, dips... I use it too actually. I'm a yoga instructor and I find myself using it during my own home practice.We aren't experts on the beam or anything close, but it's definitely helped our balance, core strength and focus. On top of that it's fun, it's challenging and keeps the little one busy for hours :)If it's in your budget to do so, I would highly recommend it for anyone with an active child... I guess I mean any child lol

My daughter's gymnastics coach recommended we build some type of small beam out of wood for some extra practice time at home.....even if it was just a single piece of wood. She can do her handstands on the beam and a half cartwheel dismount, but is having trouble with her half cartwheel twist dismount. She is scared to try it without help. Even learning the other skills she now knows, it took her a long time to not be scared to try it. Her coach thought that just extra practice of any kind, even walking back and forth, would help her confidence. I decided to just buy this beam. It is pretty much just like the one that they use at gym to practice on before they try new skills on the high beam. I thought the price was good, considering buying the wood and building one would not be cheap either. I wanted her to have something she might be able to work on the skills on, as well as getting better balance. This beam is perfect!

I recently purchased this beam to help my daughter practice her routine at home. Overall, the product provides a very solid mechanism for practicing/finessing the routine.Pros:1. Can practice most of the pieces of the routine (as long as you have to stay above the beam).2. Compact length allows easy storage.Cons:1. Compact length requires you to break the routine into smaller pieces.2. Low profile makes it hard (impossible?) to practice pieces such as "dismount".3. My daughter keeps saying that the suede has a very different feel from the real competition beam.Of course, I knew con #1 and #2 before purchasing the beam.

This balance beam is, to my inexperienced eye, just as good as any I've seen in a gymnasium. My daughters have been taking gymnastics for a while now, and this high-quality beam has been great and allowed them to progress quickly. My son even enjoys it - the kids make up games and use it all the time!The beam itself is very solid, consisting of a durable tan suede covering over a padded beam (e.g., the beam is not too hard). It comes disassembled, but all you need to do to assemble it is bolt the two legs on. The assembly is durable - I have no fear about the legs breaking off, and the screws are large. Once assembled, the beam is fully stable - no fears about it tipping, that's for sure.As far as the price is concerned, for $180 bucks or so, this seems like a great deal. One recommendation - shipping could be kind of expensive, but it's free if you're a Prime member, so it's worth considering signing up for Prime simply because the free shipping would effectively reduce the cost of your prime membership so much.

I'll start by saying that if it wasn't for strange issues, (don't know whether to label them quality control or customer service) this would easily be a five star review. The beam itself seams very sturdy, and the suede covering is soft and also seems like it will absorb some wear from my two daughters, but of course only time will tell.The strangeness is this:After receiving the beam from FedEx, we noticed the box was in horrible shape, so it made me fear for the beam. Sure enough, the suede was torn. I called the Beam Store immediately and the person I spoke with kindly shipped a replacement IMMEDIATELY with no fuss, which I thought was great customer service. I placed the damaged beam in the box and placed it on the porch for a FedEx retrieval, which was also setup by the Beam Store person.The problem came when I received the 2nd beam; it came without the feet. I called the Beam Store and they said I should have kept the feet from the damaged shipment.....but NOBODY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO. I requested that the feet be shipped immediately; the store said they were overnighted.....should have arrived today, we'll see if they come tomorrow.Also, and more curiously, it was wrapped SIGNIFICANTLY more securely than the first beam, which made me wonder why the first wasn't wrapped this way. Inside the box, the first beam was uncovered/unwrapped and sat unsecured in a cardboard half-sleeve. The second beam was covered in bubble wrap, lying in, and taped to, a cardboard half-sleeve, and all of that was wrapped in a particle-board type shell. Maybe the 2nd beam was wrapped this way as a reaction to my complaint, but I didn't get that impression.It sorta made me think that the first beam was someone's returned item that was reboxed and sent to me, and the 2nd beam was what normal "new" beam shipments are supposed to look like.In trying to describe it, think of a corn-dog in a paper sleeve in a pop bottle in a Reynolds Wrap box (2nd beam), versus a naked hot dog in a paper sleeve in a Reynolds Wrap box (1st beam). Sorry, that's the best analogy I could come up with..... :-)Probably obvious, but I'll mention it anyway; it came in one 8-foot box and it's weight plus the length make it an awkward one-person carry. Also, the Beam Store isn't open on the weekends, but my Saturday call was returned promptly on Monday.My girls loved the beam when they saw it, they really enjoy playing on it, I have no regrets about buying it, just wish it would have been smoother. I haven't attached the feet yet, so I can't speak to others' mounting issues, but I'll update this if need be.

My girls absolutely love it, They had something else picked out but this product was much better quality and a better price. Couldn't be happier.
