Excellent once you get the hang of it
Build quality is excellent, it is a Rolls Royce quality of jail cell for squirrels! Don't forget these pests will chew at the cage once caught so a sturdy cage helps!Tips:1. Like other reviewers have stated, the sensitivity needs adjusting (place it at the tip of the trigger). Use only one door (without the hook latch) to force the squirrel to fully enter before triggering.2. The trigger plate will need a piece of cardboard or corex sheet cutout for the squirrels to step on. These buggers are crafty and will tiptoe over the mesh meaning it will not trigger otherwise. Manufacturing oversight, it should have been included with a metal plate but a minor point.3. Get yourself some gloves, there is a metal plate covering for your fingers but the angry bandits will attempt to scratch and chew your fingers off as retribution. Or you can save the gloves and get yourself some plasters instead? :)

Easy to use, very effective
Very pleased with this trap despite the rather vague set up instructions. Once you have figured it out, the trap is easy to bait and set and will keep the trapped animal in place until you are ready to deal with it - I have caught 13 grey ( north American ) squirrels in the two weeks I have been using it properly ( I am amazed at how many squirrels there are ) . Three things to consider 1) The trap needs to be set to the most sensitive setting or your squirrel prey will waltz in and out with all the bait 2) a larger squirrel may be able to reach in from the side, so think about putting something along the side to stop them reaching in ( I use some small gauge plastic mesh ) and 3) monkey nuts ( unshelled peanuts ) have been my most successful bait.

Squirrel Feeder
I bought this to trap a squirrel that has taken up residence in my loft and nightly dances a jig on the ceiling above my head. The squirrel has had a warm and cosy winter and been well fed on a diet of peanuts and peanut butter which I have used as bait in the trap. I now have a daily routine of inspecting the trap only to find the bait missing and the door still open. Either this squirrel is Harry Houdini reincarnate or the trap is rubbish, not being of the Buddist persuasion I suspect the later! The problem seem to be that the catch mechanism is so stiff that unless the rodent stands on top of the lever doing burpees (whilst holding a housebrick under each front leg) the mechanism will not fire. I have tried adding a metal plate to the lever to preload it with no effect. On the brighter side in a few months the said rodent will have put on so much weight it will either be too fat to do its nightly ceiling dance or it will have reached a weight sufficient to fire the trap.I think its time to call in the council Pest Control officer (should have saved my money and done that in the first place).

Pest stop squirrel cage trap
I bought this product because there were too many squirrels in my garden. My next door neighbors like feeding them monkey nuts so I used this as a bait. The product worked for up to 3 squirrels which I caught successfully. Sadly it broke after the 3rd squirrel which was a very large chap! You can use the trap either side but I only used one side at a time. The doors are quite stiff to lift up. I used hard plastic clips to act as levers so that I could open the door without being bitten. It would help if there was an external lever for this purpose. The squirrels now know it’s a trap so I have had to stop using it plus I need to fix the mechanism that traps the squirrel.

Best squirrel trap used so far.
This is a highly effective trap and large enough to comfortably contain a squirrel - unlike many traps which are clearly designed for rats.Placed beneath the feeders and baited with a sprinkling of sunflower hearts and a few monkey nuts, this has caught five squirrels in less than a week. Adding hot chilli powder to the feeder trays helped to divert them to the ‘easier pickings’ and they were then easily dealt with. After catching a few squirrels, the catch that locates against the door mechanism just needed a quick tweak with pliers to stop it sliding off and allowing the trap to be armed. Sensitively was good and any target animals that went in the trap didn’t get out again. Birds safely came and went and a regular Wood mouse emptied any bait left after dark without triggering the mechanism.

Squirrel was to smart for this trap
had problem with squirrels in my loft, set trap with nuts and fat ball inside. when I went up next day they had eaten the nuts and fat ball but no squirrel was trapped inside. sprang trap to make sure I had set it right, worked ok. next day same set the trap same result. outcome was I brought a 22 air rifle sat in my garden and shot 3 squirrels. no more problems!!

Trap failed to work
I had a squirrel that I watched running in and out of this trap for two days, it never triggered, I tried all sorts to get this trap working but, in the end, and after much setting and testing I came to the conclusion it simply requires too much weight to trigger, a squirrel is way too light. The metal that holds the doors open has enough friction to stop the trap miss firing but too much friction to allow the squirrel to trigger it.Suggestion to the manufacture, reduce the load on the springs when the trap is set so the trigger is lighter to trigger that would resolve the design issue.I spent ages trying to get this working but failed. Waste of money.P.S. It’s not me being thick, I am in no way an unpractical person in any sense of the word, Over the years I have worked in construction, metal fabrication, motor vehicle mechanics and later years as an aerospace engineer, seriously if an aerospace engineer can't set this simple trap, then there is something wrong with the design of the trap.

Did the Job!
Did the job quickly and easily and caught 15 squirrels (within ten days). These squirrels had caused untold damage on my property. The setting up and release of the trap was a bit awkward at first and difficult to understand, but no problem after some practice. I partially covered the cage with a green tarp to disguise, and strategically arranged the nuts at entrance, middle and back of inside cage. It was interesting to watch the squirrels deliberate several times before finally going further into the humane trap and getting caught. Smart wee animals!
