I believe that city treated water may irritate the nasal cavity or dry it out causing easier nose bleeds. I also think that some people might use unsanitary or unclean water if not told otherwise. So its probably also a smart legal thing ( and safe thing ) to say. There are some crazy people out there that might use stream or rain water. Ive seen crazier things LOL. **Q: Is the handle hollow? Is water able to get trapped there?** A: The bottom half is hollow but not the top. No water cannot get trapped inside. It's great product and I've owned it many years. I’ve gone as far as replacing my mattress to cater to my allergies, but I still have nights where I can’t breathe through my nose. I’ve been looking at a neti pot for a while and finally broke down and pulled the trigger on this and its been a godsend. It takes a second to get used to and frankly I’m still working on perfect technique, but I use it every day to every other day and its made a huge difference in my nightly allergies. I use bottled distilled water and heat it up for 10-15 seconds in the microwave. Its pretty easy to use and not uncomfortable, just weird at first. I initially thought mine didn't come with a scoop but it was just buried deep in the salt jar — if you cant find yours shake the everloving heck out of it and it should pop up.
