SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE
I am so pleased with this unit, it worked straight away pairing easily with my phone and tablet. It's so simple to set up, even a pensioner could do it !!!!Out of the box, plug it into the iPod Dock 30 Pin port and it immediately started looking for BlueTooth devices. My phone was also visible and it paired almost instantly. The sound was great too although with no music playing, it is possible to hear the data transfer noises made by my phone. To be fair though, that my be the fault of my phone so I haven't marked it down for that.I easily paired it to a second device. Simply press and hold the button on the left side of the LAYEN iDOCK adaptor until the blue light blinks quickly, it is then visible to other devices. It is definitely a worthwhile upgrade to give the old iPod Dock, which doesn't have an auxiliary socket or any other form of imput, a new lease of life.I'm guessing that it will even make it possible to connect this old, but great, sound system to a new Alexa or similar BlueTooth device.

An excellent adapter that breathes new life into your iPod sound dock!
I submit this review fully aware of the number of 1 and 2-star reviews posted and duly note the general theme of users having generally had good performance for a while before running into issues.I have been using the Layen I-dock Bluetooth 4.1 adapter for a few weeks now so cannot comment on Longevity. What I can comment on is ease of use and the sound quality from my Bose Ipod dock which is excellent! The adapter means I can now use my iPhone or laptop to stream music from my iTunes library easily without having to sync my iPod first.Set up was straightforward and repeat connection has been particularly fast and reliable. I have to say, so far, the adapter does what it is supposed to, and does it well and I am rather hard pushed to find fault. The range is very good and many are the times I have been caught out by this, when I have been in a different room and forgotten my iPhone is still connected. I play back a sound (usually some WhatsApp attachment) on my phone only to hear the sound coming from the dock in the other room! The adapter does have a minor con (not a flaw) and that is the flashing blue light at night when I can't be bothered to unplug it (I leave it plugged in) or switch off the dock at the mains. It is quite bright and can be distracting, especially if it reflects off the ceiling, but I am not going to deduct a star for that - this time. All said, this is a very good product and notwithstanding longevity comments raised by others shall certainly be looking out for Layen products. Based on my limited use so far, I am recommending this product!

They ain't LAYEN, i-DOCK'd ma' wires fo' good and got me a bluetooth!
Works great with my Harman Kardon Go+Play II and aptx-capable phone!. This is the third bluetooth receiver I've tried and it looks like I finally hit the mark! I rarely give a product 5 stars, but this one is worth every one of them so far! (I'd probably throw in a couple more if I could!)My first BT receiver was battery-powered, couldn't be charged & used at the same time, and switched itself off after 5' of inactivity, aka, constantly. Not too suited for daily use with a hifi/dock, the lil' fella is now duct-taped to my headphones, which have become cable-free and quite aesthetically unique (for lack of a better word). The second one was always-on & micro-usb powered. Convenient in that it didn't switch off, but a hassle for everything else. No device memory, using it with more than once device was a nightmare (Attempt-to-pair, swear, unplug, replug, retry, curse, repeat); Audio quality was mediocre, but in particular, lack of aptx proved especially troubling: OK for music, useless for video (audio-video delay was over a second, so lip-sync was waaaay off), which translated into plug-in-BT-receiver-audio-cable-to-back-of-dock-for-music, unplug-BT-receiver-cable-and-plug-in-a-longer-audio-cable-to-laptop-for-movies, resulting in the world's first BT receiver requiring not only a wired connection, but a two-wire system involving multiple rewirings per day. This one, on the other hand (now that you've heard my soliloquy) ...is a delight! Worked straight out of the box with my dock, syncs with my phone immediately the instant I turn bluetooth on, no power cables, no audio cables to the back of my dock, no need to unplug or replug anything, videos are well synced and hollywood actors no longer seem retarded, it has no trouble connecting to my phone, then laptop, then phone again (yes, I tried and retried and repeated the operation ecstatically until my wife pointed out how annoying I was being), and on top of it, audio quality is fantastic! My music collection is all FLAC: I tried audio cable vs. Layen Dock vs audio cable several times (my wife is beginning to worry about my mental well-being), and was hardly able to tell the difference, and probably wouldn't have been able to if I hadn't known which of the two was was being used.To cut things short, my level of satisfaction is such that I opened a bottle of wine, started a one-man party and prompted a knock on the door from my elderly neighbours. Now THAT's saying something! :DP.S. If you buy one, buy it straight from LAYEN. My order got lost in the mail and their customer service was fantastic. They reshipped it as soon as I notified them that it hadn't arrived.P.P.S. Good news for Linux users: Works like a charm with the Sennheiser BTD 500 USB,P.P.P.S. The only drawback I've been able to find so far with this here BT i-dock is not being able to use it all the time. Wife and neighbours are sound asleep and and wine bottle is empty. Have been forced to revert to my duct-tooth headset. Tomorrow, though, shall be a loud and joyful day!P.P.P.P.S. No neighbours were actually harmed in the making of this review

Great audio unit for older 30pin speakers/HiFi
I have been using a Bluetooth headphone unit for a year or so now to listen to my iPhone music without having it right next to me and having recently bought an Apple HiFi speaker second hand I decide I wanted to try Bluetooth for it too.The unit packaging is minimal and very easy to get into and following the simple instructions I was able to plug this onto the 30pin dock on the speaker easily.Following the instructions I set up pairing and tried both my iPhone 5S and iPad Air 2, both of which connected quickly. I have been playing my music from my iPad ever since and enjoying hearing my music on the large speaker whose older 30pin format could have reduced its use now.Bluetooth isn't always perfect for audio quality but as long as you are not expecting HFi/CD quality you won't be disappointed and of course the sound quality is also dependent on your speaker, but for reasonably cheap wireless streaming it is great. One negative was trying to connect my iMac to the Bluetooth received, no matter what I tried it would not see the device, but I have problems with my iMac seeing other Bluetooth devices like this so it may not be the devices fault, but bear that in mind. All in all I would say this is an ideal little unit, it takes power from the 30pin connector so doesn't need charging like my other devices, all in all it has worked great and I highly recommend it.

Perfect for the Bose SoundDock II
I bought this to use on my Bose SoundDock II and it works really well.Key benefits:1 - The sound quality is crystal clear - no white noise or humming.2 - I've set it up to pair with my PC and my iPhone, and the Dual Pair function allows the iDock to connect to both devices at the same time, so it automatically detects which one is playing audio, which is very handy. E.g. if I play music on my PC and then stop the music and play a podcast on my iPhone, the iDock will automatically switch from the PC to the iPhone without me needing to press anything.3 - The iDock remembers what it's paired to, so there's no need to keep repairing it each time you use a device. For example, every time I turn my PC on throughout the week the iDock connects automatically without me having to do anything.4 - The blue light flashes when it's pairing, but then stays on once it's connected, which is ideal. Many rival devices flash constantly once connected, which would be very annoying as my Bose is next to my PC so the flashing would be distracting.5 - The customer support team at Layen are very helpful and emailed me a couple of times to check that the device was working properly and to make sure I was happy with its performance.6 - It comes in a nice box (see photos), so would be ideal to give to someone as a gift.7 - The instruction manual is very clear to follow and explains the functions well. Also, it's worth highlighting that the Bose remote control doesn't interact with the paired device via the iDock (e.g. I cant use the remote to skip or pause songs on my iPhone), so the remote is only used for changing the volume of the SoundDock or for turning the SoundDock on and off. This is fine for me, so not a problem. The only downside with the product is that when I turn the Bose off using the Bose remote, the iDock stays on. I guess it's because the power to the 30 pin connection remains constant even when the speakers are off. This is annoying as it means the blue light is always on even when the speakers are off, which is irritating, but this is unavoidable I guess. (I know can unplug the speaker each time, but that's a hassle). It would be good if the iDock had an on/off button on the side.Overall, I'm very happy with it and would certainly recommend it.

Fantastic - gives iPod docks a new lease of life!
Smaller than I thought - about the size of a snuff box or 3x AAA cells.Would be nicer in silver/gray to match my iPod/Bose Sound Dock II but the black is fine really and pretty smart.I did some time ago try an external Bluetooth adaptor thru the dock's aux connector, which worked well, but was a bit of a faff, and needed another power supply. The iDock is perfectly convenient.I found it while looking for Bluetooth adaptors for old midi systems, was amazed and bought it almost immediately. It really does give old but quality iPod docks a new lease of life! (if you have a cr@ppy iPod dock then... don't bother/ buying cr@p).I normally play FLACs thru my Bose via MediaMonkey xfer to my iPod @ AAC 320Mbps, which sound great. The iDock sounds much the same - great! It is possible to use Bluetooth with very high-fidelity systems, where you might identify deficiencies due to various components, but for this use case, the quality of the source material and iPod dock are the only limiting factors - the iDock is fully transparent.Pairing is very quick and easy, and thereafter the iDock is greedy to connect, i.e. bring a paired device nearby and it will automatically connect with no need to select on the phone/tablet etc. (this might be a minor problem if you are in a household with numerous devices). Volume is adjustable via both phone/device and Bose remote control.Apart from that, the ability to play not only my own digital audio/music library but also streaming services and Internet radio etc. through my dock has given it a new lease of life! When disconnected, the iDock does needily flash its blue LED (reflected on the Bose Sound Dock II grille), which I thought at first was a bad thing, especially since my Bose dock is in my bedroom (and I don't want flashing lights while I'm trying to sleep), but actually it's a good thing: it reminds me to unplug when not using, and thus avoid unnecessary E/M radiation.

Excellent - works with Bose Sounddock Portable but also Logic3 WIP040 Prodock for iPhone/iPod & Apple Composite AV cable
Finally I can connect my ipads, (ipad 1, ipad 3 and ipad mini retina) to my Bose with no problems at all, I have tried cables in the past and some of these do not work with the Bose so I am really pleased. However the biggest bonus is I have 30 pin docks for 2 home sound systems which use composite (Red and White) cables to plug into the amplifiers. I can attach the Layen I-dock to these and easily stream music or the audio from videos. So I can now sit in my arm chair with an ipad on my lap and play and control the music like an ultimate remote control, or watch a video on the ipad with great sound from the hi-fi system. So I have found this unit really versatile and at £25 it is cheaper than some of the cables I invested in to connect my ipad to my Bose units. Sound quality is really good also. The only small niggle I have with this is the blue led which flashes when paired. It is only small but incredibly bright, I found it quite distracting and have now put a small piece of black electrical tape over this. Which is completely invisible unless you look hard. It would have been better if it was just constantly on or off perhaps when the version 2 comes out this could be taken into account.

Excellent Bluetooth Adapter
Amazon, it's story time.Once upon a time there was a young man named Jimmy Pops. He had a nice little setup with his 4th generation iPod Touch and his Altec Lansing imt800 Boomboox. One day, Jimmy Pops dropped his iPod touch right on the pavement of his local Planet Fitness Parking lot. Upon purchasing a new iPod Touch, he discovered that Apple changed the stupid connectors from the 30 Pin to the Lightning Adapter.Alright so being serious now, I was in no mood to cough up another couple hundred bucks for another sound system. Everything always has to change doesn't it? A new connector type, a new cable needed, it's never easy; at least not until I discovered this thing. This Layen i-Dock allows you to immediately turn any "obsolete" sound dock system into a wireless Bluetooth speaker compatible with any device that has Bluetooth. This forty buck gem will save you from having to buy another sound dock more or less ever so long as the dock itself continues to function and you continue to like the sound it has.The device itself is pretty much what you see in the picture. It's a matte black device that has a 30 Pin connector on the bottom. It has a small button on the top to initialize the Bluetooth search to connect to a device and a little blue light to let you know it's either searching (very fast blink) or active (slower blink). The blue light, while nice to know it's operational, is a bit of a con for me. I have my sound system in my room so when I go to bed, if I leave the Layen connected to my Altec Lansing there's a pretty bright blue light that doesn't stop blinking as the light will blink so long as it's plugged in. It's a simple fix though. Unplug it. I really can't justify taking off a star for laziness.Sound quality over the Layen is fantastic. Does my iPod sound better than it would if it were plugged in directly? Probably not, but the difference is so indiscernible to be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference. What I will say in regards to sound quality is that over Bluetooth there's a lot of volume loss; you either need to crank the iPod or the sound dock it's wirelessly hooked up to. Once you find the right combination that floats your boat however, it sounds great. Plus I'm willing to make some sacrifices for the wireless capabilities. It's so nice to be able to walk around my room and play music from wherever I'm at. I am sure this will be nice for when I'm...you know what never mind. This adapter is a fantastic buy. Honestly, this is the best forty bucks I've spent in a long time. I'm thrilled with the Layen. It works well, it looks pretty inconspicuous, and it gives me plenty of freedom. If you are looking to make your sound system wireless or need to compensate for a 30 Pin to Lightning discrepancy, the Layen will fit the bill great!

Does this work with a B & W Zeppelin speaker ?
Old iPod Classic now obsolete, so needed something to connect to my 30 pin dock of my Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin. Bought a new iPod Touch & Layen i-dock , paired iPod to the Layen attached to the 30 pin Zeppelin & hey presto, works like a charm.Great product, compact, no more trailing wires. Sounds good through the Zeppelin.

A new life for my old JVC boombox
It was a guess, but works perfectly with my old JVC RV-NB52B boombox.

Works in car, sounds awesome!
works as advertised - really easy to pair. setup within 1 minute of unboxing. Sounds great (aptX!), and works in my car (MB) which is all I wanted it to do, since BT audio doesn't work for music in the f'ing thing. sound quality is great, sounds a little better than CD quality (320kbps mp3's or flac audio), proper reproduction of sub bass, bass, mids, and high end. was almost overwhelmed how well it sounded, but then again, I've never really used aptX before. FWIW, the price is right, get it... you won't be disappointed, as long as it works in your 30-pin Apple connector.
