SECOND UPDATE - NOW ON 15 STARS!
SECOND UPDATE - I recently had need to contact AutoVox on another matter regarding the second wireless camera that I have fitted. Again, Elena in Customer Services replied promptly, was very friendly and supportive as always, and could not have been more helpful! I was again delighted with how she helped me. And both cameras continue to work perfectly and make my driving much safer and more comfortable. UPDATE - The first transmitter I bought in November 2017 recently failed. I contacted customer service for advice - their reply was just as speedy and polite as the other times I have contacted them for advice. They confirmed 12-month warranty and sent a replacement transmitter from China. This is now fitted and all up and working again. I have no connection with this company but I wish that I did! They set a shining example for excellent caring and friendly customer service, high-quality products and super value for money. INTIAL REVIEW Excellent product at a great price. Wireless transmission gives brilliant video quality and makes it so easy to fit with no wires to feed from rear of car to front. Really bright and clear picture and guidelines really useful for judging width and distance. This is the second of these that I have fitted to 2 family cars and I am about to buy a third! Also, excellent customer service - the second car has a broken-lightbulb automatic detection system, and I had read that these can prevent such cameras working. My email to customer services was answered promptly and suggested they did not know of any problem because of this, and asked me to lt them know how I got on. Bad weather delayed my fitting the camera - I forgot to get back in touch and then I received a very polite email asking if I had been successful - real customer care :-) I can't score this camera or their service more than 5* but I would if I could!

Straight forward and effective!
After a lot of research, and a couple of ridiculous quotes from garages (£300 for installed reversing camera seemed a bit much!) I purchased the M1W kit from Auto-Vox on Amazon. Order was delivered within 1 day & ahead of predicted delivery date- brilliant. The kit itself is very straight forward. The display mounts on dash or window with a suction cup and plugs into a 12v socket, same as you would with a sat nav. The camera uses adhesive pads and mounts behind the number plate, and connects to the wireless transmitter- only wiring is a couple of plug in connections between camera and transmitter, and 2 wires to splice into the existing reverse wires of your vehicle for power using the scotch lock style plastic splices provided. Easy enough if you can access your reverse bulb on the vehicle, and then just scotch lock the wires as shown on the (basic) instructions included in the box. Installation only took about 30 minutes, and I'm very pleased with the results so far. Picture is clear and with good definition, the camera appears of good quality and fits nicely with the rest of the vehicle, and there doesn't appear to be much interference with the picture either. The camera has a couple of LED bulbs built in which automatically come on if it's dark enough- they're not great, but they'll supplement any reversing lights already on the vehicle. Takes a couple seconds for screen to show picture when reverse is engaged, but delay isn't horrendous. Screen is basic but clear, and mount appears to be strong so far. Very pleased with this camera so far, hoping it will make it easier to hitch up the trailers next week!

Good picture and fairly simple to install, but take precautions against rust
I bought this just before march 2020 and I'm generally pleased with it. I find it of great assistance when parking, it lets me watch the protruding spare wheel on my SUV. The monitor has a solid suction cup mount that worked well for me. The monitor is powered from a cigar lighter adaptor with a very long cable. It's convenient, but I would find it very untidy for regular use, so I wired it to the Aux power connection for the radio and tucked the adaptor and cable into the dash, routing the cable to the monitor between the dash and the windscreen. This took a bit of fiddling, but it means that i can't see the cable from the driver's seat. A short length still runs across the dash, but I don't have to look at it! The adaptor also includes a USB charger port. In the past I have not had much luck with these, as they rarely deliver the claimed current, but I used this to keep my phone charged on a long trip with heavy use of navigation and it performed very well. There is no on-off switch, as the screen blanks in the absence of a video signal. This has a couple of side-effects. It has to un-mute itself upon receiving a valid signal and - although it's an analogue system, the combined delays of transmitter and receiver mean that it takes about 1.5 seconds between engaging reverse and getting a clear picture. Another issue is that any camera of similar format The camera and transmitter are powered from the reversing light circuit and this was the longest item to fit, as it means tracking down a good ground and tapping into the reversing light circuit. Initially I tucked the transmitter away low down behind the boot lining on the driver's side, but I noticed flicker and noise on the monitor, so I later moved it up behind the trim in the C-pillar, so the signal no longer had to pass through the large lump of blubber in the driver's seat. This didn't improve things however. It could be an issue with noise of the power line, but it's not bad enough to be anything other than a minor distraction. No everyone connects up to the reversing light circuit, particularly if they are mounting the camera up near the roof. I know this because the monitor often lights up with a picture when I'm driving, as it gets triggered by a nearby vehicle. It can be fun, if distracting, to try and figure out where the signal is coming from. It's not a problem as the transmitter in my car always wins out and wipes the competing signal when it's on. The camera bracket has lots of fitting options and has a good, rubberized 3M sticky pad on both sides. I first tried it under the number plate and it worked well, if a little exposed. When I added a towbar, the ball was taking up too much of the picture, so I relocated the camera above the plate, as you can see in the picture. The instructions refer to a switch on the transmitter connector that allows you to invert the picture, if you have to fit the camera upside-down, but on mine this switch had been deleted. I was able to find a mounting position that always allowed me to get the picture the right way up, but this might not always be the case. So, what's the picture quality like? It's fine; it's not HD and you wouldn't use it as a dash cam, but it's perfectly good for the intended purpose. There are six bright LEDs that come on automatically in the dark, but the picture isn't great, with plenty of pixilation. Again, it's adequate. A word of warning: Corrosion. The mounting screws are stainless, but the bracket appears to be mild steel. Similarly, as you may be able to see from the photo, three of the four case screws are rusting. This is just rainwater and not salt damage, as it hasn't seen its first winter yet. I was worried when I first saw this, but the corrosion is only superficial. Nonetheless, I recommend a good coat of grease on all of the screws when fitting it.

After reading many of the 5 star reviews for this unit, I returned a hard wire camera to local auto parts store and purchased this Auto-Vox M1W for a nice $$ savings. Installation was straightforward as described in the many ratings. I took my time to study the configuration and mounting access for transmitter in my 2018 Chevy Silverado. Initially, I used the wire clip on for the reverse light power but that cut the wire so I had to splice and install a better connection (no problem). Unit powered up just fine, then started acting strange with flickers and blackout. Seems if I wiggled the power lead to display, things went weird. I revisited the installation and put a new cleaner ground connection. That seemed to resolve the flicker. One thing i noticed which was a surprise is that the display comes on when I auto unlock the vehicle? Same when I lock the vehicle. At first I though another problem, yet not so as the power dims out after a moment or two delay and all is good. As to the display, picture is sharp, good color, clear, bright, all of which is adjustable. In comparison to our new cars, this display shows a more distance image which I need to get used to for backup Would be nice to have more zoom on the display. All in all, I rate this unit 5 star for overall quality and relative ease of installation.

six mounths ago I backed into a tree beside my home ,and did some small damage to my oldie but goodie Land rover discovery. Could have been much worse ,might have been a kid behind me or another vehicle! I decided to get ahead of the game so it wouldnt happen again, first I have had my cataracts removed, and what an endeavour that turned out to be, great I can see again! I have also installed a reversing camera in the Disco. Its in and its working, It was quite an effort as the truck is an older model ,would have been easier in a more modern sedan etc Its in now and working well ,I followed the instructions and took my time, everything was straight forward and easy to understand. only error I made was mounting the camera upside down ! That was easy to fix as the camera was easily reversed. the screen is well mounted in the cab and easy to see. Its wireless so the screen and camera arnt wired to one another. Hardest part was removing and reinstalling the inner rear door panel to wire the camera to the transmitter, but I got it done . I feel relieved its in and wont have to cut down the tree after all.
