A Great Inexpensive Burr Grinder!
I love the Krups Flat Burr Coffee Grinder with 17 grind settings, and I’m thrilled to have it again after owning one for 8 years! This grinder is fantastic for all types of coffee, from espresso to drip coffee, thanks to its wide range of grind settings. The 7oz airtight bean hopper ensures the beans stay fresh, and I never have to worry about overheating as I noticed with other grinders from reading their reviews. The ability to choose between 2 to 12 cups allows me to grind the perfect amount of coffee for any occasion, and the auto shut-off feature is incredibly convenient. The noise level is low-pitched and unlike others so it is not a nuisance. What I appreciate the most is how easy it is to clean and its compactness so it can be easily stored away in a cupboard as it measures under 10.5" tall and less than 5" wide. Keeps your kitchen counters less cluttered. Yes, it does not have the "static-free" receptacle but I think that is a bit gimmicky. In my opinion, I'm not so bothered by a little bit of coffee dust on my counter because inevitably you are still going to clean up. After 9 years of daily use, my previous Krups burr grinder still worked well, even though the on button had come loose — it was still operational. I had ordered a conical burr grinder as a replacement from a different company with an LED display; however, it malfunctioned from the beginning. That was a sign to stick with a simple yet reliable burr grinder I have known to enjoy over the years. Now, I’ve replaced it with the same Krups model as before because of its reliability and consistency in grind (see the espresso grind in my pictures). It's easy to clean and comes with a compact brush. Plus, it’s very affordable on Amazon for all the features it offers. I highly recommend this grinder to any coffee lover!

Simple to Use and Delivers Good Results
This burr grinder delivers consistently good, ground coffee regardless of the setting -- course to fine. It is my second Krups and I have never had a problem with either machine. The machine is versatile. One may grind beans for 2 to 12 cups of coffee at one time. A selector knob may be adjusted to the amount desired. The power button on the front turns on the grinder, which automatically stops at the amount selected. Or, pushing the power button again, stops the machine. This is useful when starting and stopping the machine quickly to grind a last bean or two in the bean reservoir. The selector knob on the side has 17 individual settings from course to fine. The finest setting produces essentially Turkish grind coffee - two settings higher does a good job preparing ground espresso. Filter and French Press coffee are at the upper end of the spectrum. The burrs can be removed for cleaning. The body and ground coffee reservoir are made of a sturdy plastic that resists warping, breaking, etc. Others have commented here that the ground coffee reservoir, being plastic, promotes a residual amount of ground coffee to statically cling to the inside of the container. True. But I have never considered paying a premium for another grinder with a glass reservoir. A small brush is included with the machine and a slightly dampened paper towel will clean the reservoir and machine quite satisfactorily.

I would love it if it would keep working; however it is terribly unreliable and customer non-service at Krups STINKS
This is my 2nd Krups grinder in 2 years. When it works, I love it; however it is terribly unreliable. My first one developed an issue with the on/off switch, which I understand is quite common but difficult to try to fix (disassemble the entire machine). I bought a second unit in March, 2016 and it is already kaput!. The burr grinder will not stay seated. This means the coffee is not ground at all, but coming out in large chunks. The machine has been cleaned over and over - that isn't the problem. Even when I think I have it in well, the burr unit pops out of place immediately after I try to grind. I won't be getting a third one. For the money, I would expect to get more than 8 months of service out of it. The second machine had to go back in yet again because the on/off switch went out just like my first unit. Once again it took Krups weeks to respond, "approve it for repair" and send a mailing label to send it off for repair (why no replacement?). I waited weeks yet again with no communication or way to track my machine. "My package" arrived and contained an IRON! I can't grind my coffee with an iron, Krups.

Does a good job considering the price
I'm using this to grind coffee for my AeroPress coffee maker. The finest setting gets the job done, though I think that it lets through more large particles (boulders) than my JavaPresse hand mill (conical burr grinder). I'm definitely feeling less back pressure as I press the plunger. But I'm not noticing any decrease in the quality of the brew. I haven't tried it in our Mr. Coffee espresso maker, but I feel that it is just a little too coarse to do well in that. Espresso makers rely more on pressure for extraction than the AeroPress does. The machine is a little noisy, but not to the point where it's going to wake the whole house (like my Cooks blade grinder does, I was taking it outside it was so loud). It's certainly more quiet than steaming milk. I've only been using the "2" cup setting and noticed that since the portion size is time-based (which it is very quick compared to using my blade grinder and especially compared to the hand mill) the portion size changes depending upon the grind size. Finer grinds more slowly, so you get less coffee on the same portion setting. This actually worked to my advantage as the most coarse setting on "2" cups gave 28g of coffee. Why these almost never come with a "1" cup setting is beyond me. But the finest grind gave only 18g of coffee, which is perfect for a single cup from my AeroPress (though maybe a bit much for other methods). The machine disassembles easily enough, which is good for 2 reasons. First, I don't store my beans in the hopper (and like to switch between regular and decaf) and there's always a bean or two stuck in the burrs. And second, keep the little brush (they really need a holder for it on the side of the machine, I use it every grind), you will use it unless you want a bunch of grounds in the chute getting stale. Especially on the finest setting, the static generated means that the chute is always clogged with grounds that I sweep out so that they don't contaminate the next morning's grind. I do find some grinds flying from the static, but I don't know that you can entirely get away from that (grinding generates static, especially for fine grinds). It hasn't been much of a problem, though I expect it will be worse in the drier winter air. All in all, I'm happy with the grinder. The price was right, it saves a ton of hand grinding, and produces a cup of coffee that is pretty much indistinguishable from one made with much more effort.

I woke up to a first world problem today
Got up this morning to realize I hadn’t ground the beans and set up the coffee maker with water & ground beans to start my day. Pushed the grind button on the Krups grinder and watched the button fall into the cavity of the grinder. I knew it was loose and we would probably need to replace it soon. I didn’t realize soon was today. So I got out the 35-year-old Bialetti I bought at Zabars which we keep in reserve for situations like this. It still works but is noisy. Fixed my coffee and headed to the computer to look for a replacement for the Krups. My wife reminded me we bought this one from Amazon years ago. It works fine, or it did until today, a little noisy, some static electricity, grinds get on the counter, but overall it worked pretty well. I looked to see when we purchased it and found it was 2007. We paid $60 then for it, so that’s about $5.45 per year or 1.4c per day, we use it at least every day. I looked through the various options of burr grinders Amazon offers. No more Breville’s for me, I made that mistake once. On the 2nd page I found the same model as we have, looked at the reviews, some were pretty bad, some not so bad and some good. I noticed the current price on this model is about half what we paid 11 years ago. So I ordered another one. If it doesn’t work I’ll be back on this site again for an update on my new Krups purchase. If it doesn’t work I’ll be no worse off financially than ordering 2-3 glasses of wine at a bar.

I wish I would've bought this when my last one broke
Starbucks used to sell these in store, and many years ago a friend that managed a location gave me one for free. It served me well for over a decade with only minimal cleaning/maintence and daily use, until an unfortunate accident caused it to fall and break. Being in a better financial position than way back then, I thought I'd order a more expensive (at least 3x more expensive), professional grade home barrel burr grinder. Boy was that a mistake. It was significantly louder, had less adjustable settings that were more difficult to use, clogged constantly, and broke irreperably within 6 months and customer service wouldn't return calls or emails. So I ordered another one of these Krups and couldn't be happier. Its as loud as one might expect, but as I said, much quieter than more expensive models. Being able to set the volume of grinds I want, hit the button, and walk away until its done is wonderful, whereas my more expensive product required me to either guess based on time when it was done or hold a button down and watch the volume. No set up or assembly, ready to go out of the box. As I mentioned previously, while it is easy to clean, I almost never have to and that is with daily use and a relatively fine grind level (I use a pourover). I will likely never buy another grinder (barring a hand operated one for if the power goes out), though I expect this one to last me many years. My only warning is that it does have enough vibration to walk a little. The last one took a dive and broke because my girlfriend was unaware of these and placed it near the edge of the counter before turning it on.

My First Burr Grinder
This is my first burr grinder, so I really have no comparison, but still I'll share my experience. I bought this grinder because my old blade grinder died and I like my coffee. All the coffee snob websites (yes, I'm a coffee snob) say that burr grinding is the way to go because blade grinders heat the beans while grinding and this affects the taste. So, since the old one died, I decided to try the burr. Plus, I use a french press at times, so I wanted to be able to grind coarsely to minimize the sludginess in the bottom of my cup (not that I mind it terribly). So, I started using this on coarse setting for my french press. My experience with the coffee, though, was that my sludge factor wasn't lessened over my blade grinder, which I surmise to mean that I'm not getting consistent particle size (still generating fines on coarse setting). Further, I can't taste the difference between burr grinded coffee and blade grinded coffee. So, take that for what it's worth. The unit is messy. Coffee sticks in the bottom bin because of static, which isn't a huge deal, but the discharge from the machine to the bin also contains coffee which falls out on the counter when you remove the plastic bin. cleanup is sort of a pain inside the grinder itself. They say to wipe with a damp cloth and they give you a little brush to brush the little gears. You need a brush with coarser bristles to really get the coffee out, and still, there are remnants of coffee in there that I just can't get out. Maybe I'm overly concerned about cleanliness, but it bothers me. This thing is next to worthless for finer grinds (I'd say anything significantly shy of 25%, towards the fine end). The beans seem to just cease entering the grinder periodically. Then you have to turn it off, unplug it, remove the bottom bin and dump out the beans and put them back in again (or shake the unit) to get it to start grinding again. The beans come out looking pretty finely ground, but it's just aggravating trying to get it to grind the whole batch. This happens on almost every grind on the fine setting and even periodically on the coarser settings...which makes the preset for the amount of coffee (take note, 1 cup = 1.5 tbsp coffee) pointless, because you have to turn it off in the middle to clear the jam. I know you get what you pay for and this is really far down on the price scale for burr grinders. Still, I would expect it to work over it's full range of operations. If you really want a burr grinder, you probably need to invest in a better model (if you want fine grind, at least). But honestly, for just everyday coffee grinding for a normal drip pot (or even a french press) the blade grinders available for half the price seem to perform just as well as this and the cleanup is far easier.

Not a conical burr grinder
Update: I was able to replace the easily broken top lid and grinds hopper from ereplacement parts for very little. The safeties work again! I've had this thing for a year - grinds are not quite as fine as new, but still OK for espresso (I use Starbucks Barista by Saeco). Never had grinder jam pulling hundreds of shots. Main problem is sometimes the beans don't "advance" into the grinder and so it just makes noise but no grounds. I shake it or smack it and then off it goes. Being full or empty doesn't seem to matter - poor design. I've been overall happy with grind consistency. It's not a conical burr - sort of a weird carbide donut but it works. Makes good French press grounds at the other extreme. Recently, the dumb safeties have had problems - if any grounds get in and around where the top lid sits, the safety button won't get pushed and the grinder won't turn on. The lid itself has gotten broken in a few places but fortunately not where it pushes the safety. The safety underneath, which is activated when you push the grounds hopper into place also gets fouled up. Then the lid to the hopper got slightly deformed (my fault) so the safety doesn't always get pushed. I'm thinking about taking it apart and just shorting the safeties. Overall, 3 stars since it was so cheap, and still works a year later. I wish I would have sprung for the more expensive kitchenaid - ya get what ya pay for.

Excelente producto y altamente recomendable.

Great grinder (Edited 6 Star rating)
Just so happy to find this Krups Grinder. Had one years ago but was lost in a move. This German made grinder is by far the best burr grinder for the buck on the marker. The price point is perfect and the grind is even and efficient for espresso to Turkish coffee lovers. This grinder replaced another high end grinder ($350.00) that got damaged. I can say with all honesty, while this model doesn’t have the grinding range or capacity of higher end grinders, what it does is as good as any on the market, period. Addon . Purchased Nov. 2023. $68 B4 tax. Grind coffee everyday for french press, expresso grind, to drip. Best Burr grind for the buck. Keep it clean, blow it out with compressed air, control the static, and your set. Almost 3 years of use so far
