The Emperor's New Groove

I have read some of the critics reviews for this film over the years, but it still makes all our family laugh! The reason I ordered this is that a member of my family, a new generation, had never heard or watched this film. They now love it, that's 3 generations of the same family - that makes it a good film, right? It's everything you want in a family movie = jokes that the adults get, and characters that both the adults and children alike love.

Great film, good songs, kids loved it!

Occasionally Disney steps out of its preferred comfort zone, full of fluffy animals or princesses, and the results are usually abysmal or tremendous. With this step Disney hit pure gold and has created something different and extremely entertaining. Emperor Kuzco is a spoilt brat who treats everything and everyone in his kingdom as his own personal property to do with as he pleases. The idea of doing the right thing rather than what he wants to do has literally never entered his brain. When he needs to displace a town to make way for his new pool, the villagers are not very happy and things start to get complicated. Throw in two of Disneys best ever bad guys, Cronk and Esma, the talented David Spade as Kuzco, John Goodman as Patcha the village leader, a witty and genuinely funny script, very stylish animation, songs by Tom Jones and Sting and you end up with something very different to the normal Disney fare. In fact if you missed the beginning you would not know you were watching a Disney film at all. Originally a much bigger epic picture, it ended up a light and frothy comedy about friendship and responsibility and is probably all the better for it. A hidden gem.

This is a very nice fairy tail with a moral message. Animation is great. One would watch it as he is watching his favorite cartoon when he was a kid. Animation maps perfectly to the concerns, feelings, paradoxes of the modern real life. Dialogues are raw, and witty and voice fits perfect to the psychology of the characters. I think this is the best side of the movie. Maybe most amusing feature of the movie is that modern world's logical and politicly correct dialogues are applied to a fairy tail setting. This creates much amusement. And it is a great psychological story though I disagree with the moral message of it, because it is not realistic, but romantic.

My daughters favourite film and at a bargain price, she was over the moon when she saw that she had it for her birthday. Very amusing and just as fantastic as any of the Disney films, so didnt expect anything less. Suitable for both girls and boys.

Region 2 make sure you have a muti-region dvd player. The movie itself is fantastic

DVD disc is NOT functional with USA made DVD players. At least I got an automatic refund on it. Was not allowed to return it, though, which was honestly a bit disappointing because I do not know what to do with it now.

The Disc is formatted for something other than the US. Maybe European. It doesn't work. I didn't even know this was a thing. It should have been clearly described in the posting.

Since the DVD was made in England, and I wanted to play it in the US, my DVD player had to be multi-regional. And it's not. Apparently the comment section told me this prior to ordering. My fault. I can play it on my computer, and it is not cost effective to send it back so I will just chalk it down to experience.
