This book is excellent with some brilliant out of the ordinary ideas using simple and cheap household things .ie string painting,using straws to blow a clot of coloured ink in all directions black and red very effective. Grandchildren love it , I love it .you don't have to use the canvas boards which are suggested .I used a cheap A3 pad from one of the family bargains shops! All these lab editions are very good .

If you are looking for technique or starting points, this is a great book. Open your mind, find inspiring ideas to take forward and use. Great for Art teachers. If you are an artist this will refreshingly full of ideas both old and new.

Great book to get you started and find inspiration for art projects. Easy to follow excercises. A good base for getting ideas to help develop and build confidence to try something new. This took out of my confort zone and injected dome much needed life back into my art which had stalled in one style.

Great for inspiring creative projects. Well written and laid out. Recommend.

A really great book full of fab ideas for warm ups and having a good play about, well worth getting.

The paint lab is well-written, fun, bright, vivid, and joyful. It's a pleasure to read and browse through. Owning it is like finally enrolling in the college art class that I always wanted to take: educational AND enjoyable. In fact, I tried an art project with my seven year old daughter, and we had a fabulous time and felt like real artists on what otherwise would have been a dreary rainy Saturday afternoon. With very few materials, and as complete novices, we each made a beautiful abstract painting. I cannot wait to do another project now. The paint lab is like my favorite Italian cookbook: tempting, easy to follow, and perfect to peruse and re-use (and luckily, it's far healthier than making (and eating) Tiramisu). This is an amazing book for any family to inspire modern, colorful, and imaginative times!

As someone who runs art programming for the young and old, and is an artist himself, I have to say I throughly enjoy this authors series of books. It gets my own creative juices flowing as well as offering good ideas for programs / projects. This book on particular is great for the artist - again, perfect at getting the creative juices flowing! Fun ideas, well described and easy methodology.

A fun and well written Exercise book with lots of fun experiments to try and a good book to have around if you just want to jolt your imagination and kick start a creative day with the paints. A keeper!

I've begun working through this book and am really enjoying it so far. The exercises are diverse, interesting, and require minimal supplies - most of which, you probably already possess (assuming you have basic painting materials). You also get a nice little bit of art history to spark your interest and branch out to learn more. I have several of the "Lab" series books and truly cherish all of them.
