classic for a reason
used this on both bass and kick drums galore, sounds amazing. what’s actually underrated is how well it picks up high end - when recording slap this really brings out the pops without making it too harsh. overall amazing mic, great purchase for anyone looking to start recording at home/with a band

Stands the test of time!
This mic has stood the test of time. It's robust, and versatile on low frequency instruments. I particularly love how it sounds on the floor tom more than the kick drum to be honest. It's really great at getting punch out of the kick, but better to be paired with a kick-in mic like a senheisser e901 if you want a full sounding kick. It's also amazing on bass amps. So can't complain with this one, and for its price it's really great value.

AKG D112 MKII Dynamic Bass-Drum Microphone
Easy to set up and eq, gives that retro 80s sound, like the Pretenders or The Jam, had no feed back off this mic, it sounds good

Just works
Does what it says on the tin, really. May seem a bit entry-level, but I've seen these used in high-end studios. (Incidentally, many engineers swear by a cheap SM on the snare too.) You can get a nice clean, dry sound by just removing the front kick head, popping a blanket inside and sticking this in it. Good for a jazz sound, but you'll also get a good signal if you want to process the channel (or even trigger-replace) for more welly in other styles.

A classic
just wanted to get a great quality bass drum mic that didn't break the bank... AKG D112 does it. Soundwise, you love it or you hate it, personally I'm quite fond of it, and was trying to avoid Beta 52s or Audix d6, just a matter of taste. Haven't used it much yet but I'm familiar with the mk1, I loved the improved holder of the mkII, so much better than the mk1's flimsy clip. Build quality looks and feels great.

Legendary kick drum mike
I have the D112 and the Shure Beta. Both are built like tanks and work well for bass guitars, kick drums, and other very low-end applications. Study the curves for the frequencies these mikes will handle, because they differ. The Beta yields a smoother sound, whereas the D112 has more punch. I have a D112 mounted inside a 24" kick drum, just about 4" from the batter head. It sounds great. Generally among the handful of other drummers or engineers I know, the D112 is preferred on the kick for rock or country applications.
