Great versatility, great build quality; great stove.
This is hands down my favourite stove todate. I purchased this stove to enable me to have a small contained fire when I was camping and where open fires were not permitted. This allowed me to cook my food and boil my water when and where necessary. The stove has many cool features but the one feature that stands out to me is its ability to pack down flat for easy packing inside my kit. This stove literally packs flat!!! It comes in a rugged, hard wearing canvas type envelope with a velcro seal to keep the contents secure. The stove then slides out with ease and in less than 20 seconds you have a fully assembled stove ready for action! Assembly is a simple affair, all you do is open the stove apart, drop the 2 internal flaps down inside "which is helped by gravity anyway!" And you are good to go! The stove is constructed of a high quality thick stainless steel and it feels VERY robust! The build quality feels bomb proof. From a design perspective it is near flawless. The stove features a large fuel window on the face of the stove which allows for fairly chunky pieces of wood to be used to fuel this stove which in turn means longer burn time and longer burning coals which are ideal for cooking on. Another design feature of this stove is the numerous slots in which you can position the two trivets you also get included in the package. These holes also aid in ventilation for the fuel to burn. The versatility of this stove is demonstrated further with the ability to use a alcohol stove with this setup, which is a great feature if you just want to get a quick brew on but can't be bothered with getting a fire going and just want to use the stove as a impromptu windscreen. To pack the stove away simply discard the ashes (when cool to the touch!) By tipping the stove upside down, which will then allow the ash pan and ventilation grill to fall out of place and then collapse the stove and pack away, simple!

It is so good man
This thing is the one. I havnt tried any other hobo stoves in fairness. But bought this to go in the bug out bag. Which it is rather weighty for. However it is to replace the trangia that I had in there. For which you cannot oporate without the weight of a bottle of meth also. So it does seem a logical trade off for me. I gave it a quick test in the garden. Thought I'd boil some water since that is the test that usually takes the longest. I chopped off 4 4" pieces of 2" diameter timber. Then used the kukri to split them into little thumb sized widths. So I probably had about 30 peices ready to go on as I wasnt sure how much fuel it would eat. I lit the fire with some wood chips, the laid about 7 of the peices of timer on top, which about filled the stove. I put a mess tin with water on. I didnt time it but it was really fast. So fast that there still wasnt enough space to add a new peice of timber before the water was roaring. The point being, not only was it incredibly fast, but also incredibly fuel efficient. In a bug out type situation while needing to be on the move for whatever reason. The ability to cook food or boil water in under 5 mins without much smoke and with literally a handful of sticks could be lifesaving. So I can more than justify the weight. The price? Well yeah that hurt a little but its done now. As a comparison I did see someone test this stoves boiling time and got 3 mins. When compared to the smaller pocket stove which the same person got 17 mins. So although the smaller of the two is a far more acceptable price and much lighter. I believe I would have regretted not spunking the extra on this one. Plus this one is self constructing, which is uber cool and again, fast.

Excellent Bushbox XL combination kit
I ordered this on late on a Monday afternoon and it arrived in the UK from Germany on Thursday morning via DHL standard (I think) delivery. The whole thing came packed in a neat little cardboard DHL/bushcraft essentials envelope, which makes a pleasant change from the usual box in a box, in a box situation often encountered when getting stuff delivered from the Amazon warehouses, which I find unnecessary. I haven't fired it up yet but I'm very impressed with the quality of the black pouch and the bushbox XL itself. The pouch is durable nylon, the sort of thing a good quality rucksack is made of, with good stitching and strong Velcro, there are two slots in the pouch, one for the box and one for the grill top. The finish of the box is great, and it feels reassuringly solid as you'd expect from stainless steel. It's not going to win any awards from the lightweight fraternity, although I believe there is a titanium option...? I was concerned that there may be sharp edges and burred metal from the manufacturing process, but not so, just nice crisp edges. It is very intuitive to assemble, I didn't read the instructions and had it all together in about five seconds, although admittedly I had watched several people do it on YouTube. I can't wait to get it fired up now, but having seen other reviews on here and on YouTube I have no reservations about it performing well. I may update this review later.

Warped with wood on 1st use..
Used wood to cook a burger & it warped the legs out so much that the ashtray fell out of the bottom but the next day I bent them back & got the tray re attached. The extended grill top warped so badly that it no longer fits into the grooves so I'll probably just get a bit of thick mesh & not bother repairing (flattening the extended grill bit) waste of money. Other than that after cooking a burger & mug of tea I noticed as it's a small cooker it uses fuel really fast where as a big fire just simmers on this needs to be fed little bits very often. I do like this product but after use it will be a greasy bent mess but it folded up ok & I'll use it again.pity as it looked so nice when new. He carry case is a nice is good but it's more plastic than canvass so one of my little cross bar bits was placed on it while still hot & it's now permanently attached (melted right through) I like the product but the extras are pricy considering they are now scrap (sort of my fault with the case)

An excellent little stove...
I like this stove a lot. Well made and nicely put together. As a wood burner, it requires a bit of forward planning and may not be right for every trip. But it is easy to light, burns really well and because it works so well it gets through a lot of wood. Having said that I was using pine which is not exactly slow burning. Obviously, not a problem if you are close to a wooded area. More of a problem if you are just using what you carry. Used it with BBQ coal, just to see if it would work. The answer is yes, but you have to stack the coals up a bit or the heat is a long way from what you are cooking. Very few short comings. All in all, an excellent little stove...

Superb design and build.
One of the best bits of outdoor kit I have bought. Like you, I hesitated due to cost, but just buy it - it will last a lifetime and is so well engineered and designed. It's super fuel efficient and always surprises me when dinner is cooked and tea made and I have bit's of the first branch left unused! It allows quick and mobile outdoor cooking fires in places it would be impossible to have a fire on the ground. It is NOT for backpacking though - it's quite heavy. Pay the extra for the new Titanium one for backpacking. It's really the kind of weight that is going to be for car/horse/sled/flat biking or purposeful light-eating hikes use. Don't get a smaller one to save money/weight - the firebox in this XL one can sustain a fire for 5min without refuelling, but a smaller one would need constant attention less time for cooking. In the right conditions it can warm you slightly too, and although not intended to be overfilled, it can give moral boosting heat and light for an overnight camp.

This is great. Easy to light
This is great. Easy to light, within 5 mins I had roaring fire, kettle boiled almost instantly! Another 5 mins and the box was glowing red, nice and warm. Another 5 mins I had a thick bed of embers to use it as a BBQ. Afterwards fold it up put it in the rucksack and go. No trace of ever being there. What a cool piece of kit, well thought out. No need to carry fuel or worry that your running low and you get that deep primal satisfaction that only a proper fire can give. Pricey yes. But the pain of purchase passes, while the pleasure of possession lasts forever.

As everyone else has said a top quality product that ...
As everyone else has said a top quality product that will undoubtedly stand the test of time So far I have only done one test burn using wood pellet cat litter with the grill plate at half height it burnt fairly cleanly and as it said in the instructions 1 cup full burnt for just about half an hour with embers after To sum up i was in 2 minds get this or the Firebox but decided on the bushbox due to the hinge mechanism being more warp resistant than the hinges on the Firebox well I hope it is Hope this helps Dai Time for an update great stove burns clean with very little smoke surprisingly when filled with wood chip cat litter it only burnt with a flame for about 45 minutes ( i still don't understand why ) one. Mug of the wood pellets burnt for nearly half an hour Anyway back to cooking on the stove it burns with a nice soft flame that's perfect for cooking after the flames died down i put on the kettle filled with two mugs of water and hour after putting on the kettle it was still hot enough to make two steaming mugs of coffee Perfect for cooking stews and currys far better for cooking than any of the woodgas stoves that i have used they are great for boiling water but next to useless for cooking Let's try to sum up this stove and the smaller bushbox stove are fantastic cooking stoves they both burn cleanly the smaller stove turns a bit smokey after the flames died down this one burns clean until there is nothing left Hope this helps Dai

Simple. Elegant. Perfect.
There is something magical about this stove. Yes, I’ll admit I’m a stove junkie, but first and foremost I’m drawn to great design. Form, function and beauty are three words that describe the Bushbox XL as well as its counterparts in the Bushbox stove line. Like my 49 Chevy, this product is a classic from day one - designed to withstand the test of time. Fifty years from now, it will still be the choice of discerning campers. Why? It’s simple and beautiful, it folds down to 1/4 thick and it works. Use it with multiple fuel sources; wood, charcoal, pellets, alcohol burners, you name it. It’s perfect for hiking or car camping and should be in every preppers bug out bag. When that little part breaks on your Optimus, MSR or Jet Boil - or you simply run out of fuel, this keeps right on going. The stove itself sets up in less than 5 seconds and is ready to use as soon as your fire is hot (usually 5 - 10 minutes). The Bushbox XL is not simply a device to boil water. I have a 2.7 liter GSI pressure cooker and have made fabulous meals in the field with the Bushbox XL, from chili, to beef stew. With the optional grill plate, you can use it like a mini BBQ to cook hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, etc. I also like to boil hot dogs, then drop them on the grill for a quick sear with grill marks. Yummo! For times other than grilling, I sometimes use my Trangia spirit burner with 95% grain alcohol (Everclear or equivalent), to cook indoors. IMPORTANT: DO NOT DO THIS INDOORS with other fuels - including charcoal - which can result in your death. Grain alcohol leaves virtually no soot on the stove or pan and produces a nice even controlled heat which can be moderated with the flame adjuster. Outdoors, charcoal briquettes can also be employed with the added benefit of minimal soot build up. This makes a perfect backup solution for emergency situations. Many of the video reviews I’ve seen show great skill at fire building, but very little cooking expertise. Use your imagination, experiment to find the proper amount and type of fuel for the meal you are cooking. With a little ingenuity, you can even use the Coleman camping oven on the Bushbox XL to bake cookies, bread, etc. This even works as a miniature outdoor fire pit too keep you warm, or roast marshmallows and hot dogs. So live a little. Have fun with it and learn to use it. After all, that’s part of the journey and the joy of camping for me personally. In short, I couldn’t be happier. I did not ask for, nor did I receive a discounted (or free) product for review. I purchased both the XL and the outdoor pocket stove here on Amazon, so you can trust this review is completely unbiased.

Super Kit!

Extremely well made.
Love it! Works great, exceptionally well made and definitely saved a lot of room in my pack. Keep in mind if you dont over fill it to the point that its a campfire it will last you with very minimal warp. Dont be one of those types in the videos!
