For The Demented jewel case

I have owned Allison Hell for a few months now and fell in love with it. I then caught a couple videos from their upcoming album and was seriously hooked. I pre-ordered the album, Sadistic, Ballistic, but that is not due out for another month so I decided to buy For the Demented to pacify the time and man am I glad that I did. Although some of the subject matter of a few songs is not my cup of tea, but the music (particularly the rhythm and lead guitar work) is phenomenal. If you were a fan or are looking for something new to add to your catalog of albums/CD's, this would not be bad choice if you like thrash. Me, personally, can go from thrash metal to power metal to progressive metal seamlessly. With this album I can see me staying in thrash mode for some time to come. I have been listening to metal since the mid 70's (it was not necessarily called metal at the time) and I know great stuff when I hear it and I certainly am enjoying this album and I think that you may too.

I was very happy with this purchase. The record sounds phenomenal and looks fantastic, and I love when they offer a digital download so you can add it to your itunes as well. This album is aggressive and reminds me of some of his earlier work. If you're a fan of the first three records, you'll love this.

Arrived well packaged and undamaged. AMAZING album, and great on vinal. Love the art that comes with the album and the record itself is an awesome neonish red. Quality product and outstanding METAL.

This album is musically written very well. I'm usually impressed with Jeff Waters' work. I'm a fan of this type of album like Alice in Hell, Never Neverland, Criteria for a Black Widow, Waking the Fury, Annihiliator and this one because of the style he writes. It's some complex thrash at times and some songs with some good grooves and jams. I listened to the very first song "Twisted Lobotomy" and I was quickly sold. I bought it and got the AutoRip and cranked it big time. I love the music. It crushes. It falls short because of the continuous disappointment in one thing. The lyrics. My God they are just awful and generic. He really needs to hire someone to write them. I know he probably really wants to do it all on his own so he can take sole credit for his work but geez, stop. Please. The lyrics and song structure are written just for the sake of rhyming and it's brutally elementary. This is stuff I wrote in the 10th grade. Other than that, it's a damn good album and I really enjoy cranking it up. I just need to tune out those damn lyrics.

Annihilator keeps coming out repeatly year after year with excellent material. I have over 10 cds by them.They stick to what they do best.Solid rock.roll/thrash!

I’m proud to say I’ve been here since the start, Annihilator’s start, back in 1989 with the awesome ‘Alice in Hell’ through 1990’s brilliant ‘Never, Neverland’, it’s probably a bit of a pointless argument as to which one of these is the best. Anyway I digress, the reason I bring up these legendary albums is because during the build up to this new album, Jeff has been waxing lyrical that this is a return to the sound of early Annihilator, specifically the first 4 albums!So how does ‘For the Demented’ fair? Well I have to say, unfortunately, it’s more like albums three and four than 1 and 2. It’s good and it does have that ‘old vibe’ feel to it, and with the arrival of the first single ‘Twisted Lobotomy’ (what a title), I have to say I was quite excited, as ‘Lobotomy’ is an instant Ani-classic, very much in the ‘Alison Hell’ or ‘The Fun Palace’ style. Maybe the alarm bells should have been ringing, as while (as stated above) albums one and two are as good as anything around, three and four are a mixed bag at best. Third album ‘Set the World on Fire’ has some great material, the title track, ‘No-Zone’, ‘Bats in the Belfry’, ‘Knight Jumps Queen’ and the awesome ‘Braindance’, the other half are a mixture of hard rock, cheesy ballads and semi-ballads, which although shows Jeff’s versatility as a songwriter, but some of the songs just aren’t very good. ‘King of the Kill’ album number four, has some killer material, the title track being the strongest, ‘Second to None’, ‘Hell is a War’ being the pick of the rest, ‘In the Blood’ is a an Ok ballad but the other songs are pretty average.So back to ‘For the Demented’, well after ‘Twisted Lobotomy’, unquestionably the best track, the album does go downhill a bit. ‘One to Kill’ is a fairly run of the mill thrasher, the title track is a weird one, it’s pretty slow and groovy, with a sort of tripped out chorus, but it’s not that strong considering it is the title track, it’s no ‘Alison Hell’ for sure. ‘The Demon you know’, ‘Altering the Alter’, and ‘Phantom Asylum’ are the pick of the rest of the heavy songs. They all have that ‘classic’ Annihilator feel with a modern twist, and should easily please long term fans. ‘The Way’ is this albums ‘The Edge’ or ‘The Rush’ it’s a hard rock tune,, but it lacks the integrity or hooks of the two mentioned. The other song that will gather the most attention is the slightly controversial ‘Pieces of You’ a true story about a guy who ate his girlfriend! It’s starts as a very interesting acoustic piece with great melodies and corny/disturbing lyrics, it does get darker as it goes on and there’s a great middle section with some fantastic guitar parts and solos, but it does get a bit monotonous, and I wanted it to turn into this raging thrasher, it does get a bit heavier in the middle section but in the end it just sort of fizzles out. The album does sort of end a bit flat as well, the aforementioned ‘The Way’, the boring instrumental interlude ‘Dark’ and finally the far too quirky ‘Not all There’, which starts out promising enough with a great riff, but the chorus is a bit forced, although it has grown on me and it’s got a bit of everything (including the kitchen sink) feel to it, saying that though, the two ‘Funk’ sections are far too much and spoil the whole flow of the song.In conclusion, it’s a pretty enjoyable album, but saying that I always enjoy Annihilator. Is it better than the last two ‘Feast’ and ‘Suicide Society’, well I’m not sure, I’d say it’s on a par with them, it definitely sounds more old school and classic than those releases and with more originality, and I’m probably being a bit harsh here, but with a bit more quality control, care, self-discipline, and better editing on a few songs, it could have been the best Annihilator album for years, as it is the weaker songs and a few other poorer parts just drop the quality enough to make it a very good album, not a great one and certainly not a classic.

Long time Annihilator fan here and I have to say this is probably their best album since something like Criteria For A Black Widow. It's not the TOTAL return to 80's thrash that Jeff Waters suggested in publicity leading up to the release but there are a few faster, heavier numbers and the overall quality of the songs is really high.I can't think of a single song that I don't really like and the performances (all by Jeff himself of course) are top notch. I respected Dave Padden's time with the band, and the Feast album was really great, but I think Jeff is better singer and this is a real return to form for the band after the weaker Suicide Society.Overall, if you like thrash you should check this out, it's a great representation of the genre in 2017!

Annihilator are one, if not the, best thrash metal bands there are. Every single album has been brilliant and this is no exception. Excellent leads, fast rhythm, vocals, melodies making it a treat for anyone who has ever enjoyed any Annihilator. If you haven't but you like Metallica, Slayer, Dark Angel, Megadeth (to name just a few of the bigger names!) then give it a try; you won't be disappointed.
