Easy to use and extremely effective at refreshing waterproof coating on bags and coats. I’ve never had any issues with staining and it doesn’t leave greasy residues on clothes / in the washing machine. The smell isn’t harsh either which is a huge bonus. I would recommend wearing gloves when using it though, especially if you’re planning to dip items before washing. My only small niggle is that you have to do separate washes for each part of the treatment. I hate wasting water but it’s a minor issue when weighed against the fact it hugely extends the life of waterproof items.

Absolutely brilliant. I've two very aged down coats that are far better quality than newer ones. They were looking really tatty and a bit grubby despite cleaining them with ordinary machine liquid several times. The Nikwax wash is so easy to use, both coats look brand new. The fabric is soft and so clean now, smelling fresh. They're both now well waterproofed also. Water was beading off the coats when I removed them from the machine. Loose a point that each coat has to be washed separately, so it's several hours of cleaning. Highly recommend this product. Cheaper and more environmentally friendly than replacing the coats.

I decided to use this product to wash and treat my expensive down gear. It's quite pricey and I considered other products like Grangers, but I thought whilst going to all the trouble to wash the kit I'd use a brand I've used previously, and try the down proof as well as the down wash.direct. Now I've got the kit fully dry it it has a good feel to it, and I have used Nikwax down wash in the past with perfectly good results. As yet I don't know whether the down proof will have any benefit in terms of water repellency or in extra care for the down, but it's no trouble to do the proofing as well as the washing, so why not. It's the drying that's the challenge! Note that there is enough down proof to treat more items than the down wash, so you will have a load left over.

It is more water resistant than waterproof, but it is really nice to have in a rain storm when the umbrella doesn't fully cover the sleeves and lower parts.
