dreamy and unreal, but where do you put your ironing board ?
This handsome book provides a set of sixty second homes in rural settings. If you saw the recent BBC series The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes, then you will have an idea what to expect. There are plenty of fairly predictable choices, both old, Fallingwater and Casa Malaparte, and new Fogo Island Studios and the Ring House. Despite the familiarity of some of these houses, the photographs and text bring a fresh air to the material. These are dreamy photographs of dreamy unreal places, nestling in stunning settings. If you are concerned about where to store a wheelie bin, ironing board or storage, then these are not the houses for you. In fact many of these houses, such as Philip Johnson’s Glass House and Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House (a pair of very elegant glass boxes) are defiantly unliveable concepts.
