can I make patty of 12/14 oz with this press?

12 yes. It will probably make 14 but it would be nice if it was an inch larger diameter. But it does pound out nice burgers in a hurry. I love mine.

what's the "patty injector"

It is actually "patty ejector" and it helps removing the patty. Be sure to use wax paper when making patties, helps keep press clean and easy stacking for freezing.

Can it be modified easily to make thinner patties, like 1/4" (instead of the 1/2" minimum)?

Yes it can. The plunger is adjustable.

How does the dual press make 4 half pound patties? I only see slots for two patties at once

It only makes 2 patties at a time, which are 4.5” across, and range from 1/4 lb to 3/4 lb (which determines thickness).
