Just the job
My satnav usb charging/power port no longer makes connection. As this mount is magnetic, it is much easier to leave car unit in-situ, just pull off the satnav and attach to new indoor unit which has its own usb connection for power. Updates and charges. To repair the satnav usb port would be more expensive than this adaptor. A new similar satnav costs £100's and does not include live traffic and all map updates without extra purchase.

5 stars because it solves a problem
For a fraction of the price of a new unit. The actual product is overpriced for what it is and has inherent design faults that lead it to fail. But if I can get another 3-4 years out of the unit then it isn't too bad to stomach. After 3 1/2 years the mount socket failed, the original cable went last year, so I filed the mount to allow direct plug in to the back of the Tom Tom.This worked for a while but between loose micro usb cables - badly designed retaining clips that become depressed - and the unit socket it started to power off as the cable wasn't charging properly or just shifted from vibration, to the point it couldn't even boot.Having researched - it is why C replaced micro usb, after a certain number of connections it fails, somewhere between 1000 and 5000, which an average user shouldn't theoretically ever reach. So this is the last attempt before a whole new unit and having worked I can stop using my phone as an inadequate replacement.Hopefully the next time I get a whole new unit micro usb will have been totally replaced by C.TLDR - you can try all the things suggested in videos and articles for fixing a loose micro usb socket, ultimately you have to replace it.

Best way of fixing a sat nav in my opinion
This item is a heavy weight base covered in fabric and with a rubberised base. There's a centre section which is made of high-gloss, hard plastic. The best fixing is obtained if you lick (or lick your finger and wipe) the rigid plastic surface and the suction cup on your sat nav so they're both wet, then start with the suction cup on your sat nav set to "unlocked", bring the two items together and turn the suction cup to "locked".Provides am excellent fixing strength in my opinion and you can even be quite rough with the angle adjustment of your sat nav and it still stays stuck. I'm using it with a 5" sat nav but I'd say the fixing strength will more than cope with 6" and 7" sat navs too.My car has has a flat dash board section next to the instrument cluster, so this item sits there perfectly flat. It doesn't move about thanks to its weight and the rubberised underside.Another plus point is that if you're not sticking the sat nav to your screen then you're not obscuring your view of the road (the police can and do stop and prosecute you if you have the item stuck to your windscreen in such a way that you've created a blind spot). I.e. it prevents accidents. In addition, you're not leaving suction-cup marks on your windscreen (or the plastic screen in front of your instrument binnacle, which I've seem some people use to fix the sat nav) so no-one knows you've got a sat nav (potentially left in the glove box) if they come sniffing round your car when you're away from it.The only downside I'd say is that eventually, the rubberised base starts to show significant marks and small chips in the rubberised coating as if it is starting to perish, but honestly I can say it takes several years for this to be significant and it never gets to the point where it becomes a problem or the product isn't useable.I'd say if your dashboard has a large rolled top, or the rake angle of your windscreen is very shallow, then this may not be the right item for you as it'll end up just being balanced/perched and may not be as stable as it can be, particularly if your windscreen angle is shallow and you can't push the item far back towards the windscreen so it stays put and doesn't fall forward. I think most people will be able to make use of this product though. I have seen this base used in new (2017+) cars with rolled/soft moulded dash boards and it still seems to fit well enough. My favourite fixing method, so I'm giving it 5 stars for everything as it does everything really well with no drawbacks.

Mine has a type c usb connector for the bracket, but TomTom send a micro usb
First of all I thought I would buy a returned item for £7 less. If you look at the photos, someone had decided to return there used broken holder back after buying a new item. It wouldn't charge when docked and I dreed to think what the gunk is in the grooves from that person's dirty fingers. I then returned it and bought myself a brand new one. When the brand new one arrived, I soon noticed, after not being able to plug the supplied cable in to the dock, TomTom have decided to change the dock port to a usb type c connection but sent a micro usb cable within the package... Overall the dock is good but QA is really bad at TomTom. Luckily I have a spare usb type c cable...TomTom aren't what they used to be years ago.I have a TomTom 620 and bought this to leave one in the car and have this in my van. I only like using TomTom because it is a separate device, and therefore doesn't mute or lower music/radio while reading out the directions. I cannot stand Android Auto because of that. But Android Auto is much better than TomTom nowadays as a navigation device. TomToms can be slow, constant crashes at the most inconvenient times, WiFi update is a joke and updates to smart motorway roadworks is very late. I have had quite a few different units over the years. My phone can be right next to it, but fails to or drops connection as soon as you want to update it. TomTom update as always been a joke since MyDrive and this era of operating system. TomTom was much better before MyDrive and this version of operating. But after all this negativity, I will keep using TomTom until I find something else that doesn't mute the music or radio...
