Shape of you is a song by english singer-songwriter ed sheeran. It was released on 6 january 2017 as one of the double lead singles from his third studio album (2017), along with castle on the hill. The dancehall-infused pop song was written by ed sheeran, steve mac and johnny mcdaid. Due to its interpolation of no scrubs by tlc, kandi burruss, tameka tiny cottle, and kevin shekspere briggs are also credited as writers. The song was produced by sheeran and mac. An infectious dance track
I have to say that out of the two lead singles from Ed Sheeran's excellent third album 'รท', I did favour the autobiographical 'Castle in the Hill', a nostalgic and often moving folk-rocker describing the young man's routes and some of his landmark early experiences. That song peaked at no.2 in the UK charts, but it was the other, 'Shape Of You' which hit the top spot. This is the much more commercial offering, and a track that I can describe as a 'grower', although it still doesn't come close as being one of my favourites from the album. Nevertheless, it's a good dance track that demonstrates his versatility, and was something quite 'different' from Ed. After a few plays, it won me over with it's infectious beat, although I still don't think it's a style that I would like him to heavily return to in the future, as I much prefer the folksy tunes and the heartfelt ballads. As one of the few artists who still releases singles on the now good-old fashioned CD format, it's worth a purchase for avid Ed Sheeran fans and collectors. The B side is an acoustic version of the title track.
