Loved this book, pictures and the story

This is one of the earliest books I remember from my childhood, and I hadn't read it since I was about 5 years old, so was very happy to find that it hadn't lost it's charm when I bought it as a gift for my toddler. It's a fairly silly story but also has some nice messages about how even the smallest person can be a hero and how what you eat can make you stronger & healthier. For some reason my mother in law thought it was a bit inappropriate for young kids but I can't fathom why anyone would think that - perhaps because the baby throws some bullies in a pond?! My 21 months old loves the book, and has requested it many times, and I would imagine it would appeal to kids up to the first few years of primary school (one of my older kids read it in school when he was 6 or 7).

I love these small pocket-sized editions of picture books and have bought a number in this series. They're great, both for little hands, and ensuring that there is always a bedtime story to hand when we're travelling. The Avocado Baby is a peculiar little story about a family who are described as `weak' (in the physical sense) and their hopes that the family's new baby will not follow in their footsteps. Luckily the baby loves avocados and the strength he gets from them enable him to chase off bullies, pull the other children uphill in a cart and push the car when it won't start. This is a sweet and absurd tale that will appeal to a little one's sense of humour. Great size, great value!

All John Burningham's books are great, but there is something about this that is really special. The illustrations are gorgeous, capturing the expression of a sturdy little baby perfectly. There is something deliciously funny about this baby, and lovely moments where both bullies and burglars get their comeuppance at the hands of Avocado Baby. It is the perfect length for a bedtime story. It is also a good gift for older siblings with a new baby in the family. If you enjoy this then read some more of Burningham's books. He is a genius. We also love Courtney and of course Mr Gumpy.

I remember my mum reading this to my little brother, and I’m thrilled to be able to read it to my own baby. A delightful story with super cute illustrations.

Fast delivery, story was a bit scary for a really little one

This mini version of the story is great for having in a change bag to pull out in a dull moment when you are out. The weak little baby who isn't interested in food becomes a super strong bionic baby when he tries the wonderful avocado pear. His super strong feats are hilarious and amazing. I also had 6-Dinner Sid, Rosie's Babies and several other mini treasure books in my bag when mine were little.

Loved this book as a child so wanted it to read to my own children. Brilliant book they find it funny. Good illustrations simple but purposeful, good story line. Arrived quickly and in good condition.

I have loved this story since I was young and when I found that it was still available I couldn't resist buying it. A slightly silly story told in a delightful and understandable way, I love reading it to the kids I babysit and they love hearing it!

Can’t go wrong with this classic children's book. I’ve given it as a gift several times.

This is my go-to baby book gift. I love the message it sends about strength coming from eating the right food. Additionally it is humorous and kids of all ages love the visual!

Ich kannte das Buch noch aus meiner eigenen Kindheit, wo wir es aus der Bücherei ausliehen. Damals war "Avocado-Baby" für ein starkes Baby sprichwörtlich in unserer Familie. Nun habe ich es für meine kleine Tochter (2) gekauft, und sie liebt es schon jetzt. Die Bilder sind sehr altmodisch und für die heutige Gewohnheit nicht sehr ansprechend, dennoch ist die Geschichte an sich unschlagbar. In den Umschlaginnenseiten gibt es allerdings sehr schöne Zeichnungen, die auch vom Grafischen her ansprechen.
