Much better performance than expected
June 2024. We have very heavy clay soil and despite digging in loads of organic material our veg beds had set like stone. I couldn't even get a fork in to any depth. Apart from some of the plastic coating on the handle partially blocking off one of the assembly holes it was easy to put together. The performance is stunning, within a few minutes I have turn a solid veg patch into a fine tilth into which I have worked in further soil conditioner. After the first pass I moved any remaining hard lumps into a line along the centre of the patch and gave them a second going over. I wish we had purchased this machine a couple of years ago, it makes such easy work of cultivating our soil. As other reviews say it does spray some soil out to the sides but it is not an issue and to be expected with such a powerful machine.

Why didn't I get one years ago!
I've been digging over veg beds for years and thinking I didn't need to resort to the expense of mechanical means.I'm 67 and relatively fit and hadn't considered a rotavator until I tried to turn over the soil in one bed that's been sat for at least 6 months. We have 4 beds approx 8ft by 6ft all rock hard and compacted.Time for a change.I read the reviews for this machine and thought give it a go. Ordered Thursday 6 April, delivered Friday 7th.It out performed my expectations. It easily ate into the heavy soil and would have continued digging well below its 20cm depth guide. It does 'spray' the soil out sideways but this was a minor problem. It has a tendency to bounce on hard soil, but by applying downward pressure above the machine rather than following it, cancelled out the issue. The soil quality was vastly improved by the aeration, not possible by just turning the soil over with a fork without breaking my back! After one full turning of the soil, compost was added and turned in with the machine. The wife was very pleased with the result, commenting that the soil was to Gardeners World standard. What was a 3 hour heavy labour job was completed in an hour. Easy to clean afterwards.Would highly recommend this.

Great for raised beds and lighter soils. Not powerful enough for heavy clay or tough sod.
I do like this one, but found it to be really quite light in our harder soil. I gave it a 4 because it is a good price and works well in raised beds that are already soft. It is very good for digging in new top soil or compost that you've laid over the top of the existing soil and for aerating what is there. I've tried it on soil under sod and it took a good bit of time to chop it up and it was't chopping very deeply. I think if you used it several times and it was very dry you could do more. It definitely does not dig sod as the grass just twines into it, but it's not sold to do that either. In general, a very good tool for the price if you're talking about lighter work or lighter soils. Again, very handy for the raised beds.

Small electric rotavator
Seams a useful bit of garden kit for boarders and small plots, bought as a gift and will probably get some use when the weather improves

Effective but not heavy duty
Heavy soil needs turning over with a fork and then this works fine tilling the soil quite finely and excellent and mixing in compost or manure.Coped with stones and rocks although it can bounce as it’s quite lightweight.Have other Einhell tools and this seems to be of similar quality

IT DIDN'T WORK AFTER 5 MINUTES!
This product took longer to assemble than it did to work. I started to smell burning after 3 minutes and then it stopped dead after 5 minutes. At first I thought maybe my electrics had tripped, the fuse wasn't working, I was using the machine wrong...anything, but the awful truth the item I had just purchased was broken. However, it was! Then when I called the helpline on a Friday morning it stated the ENTIRE team was on a training day!! Not even skeleton staffing. As a result my partner had to take it apart. Repack it. Take it the post office for a refund that will come 7 DAYS AFTER you return the item. He then was forced to fork over the entire ground by hand as we needed to get the work completed by the Saturday. So be warned, if you buy this...buy a pitch fork as well...just in case.

GREAT ITEM
I bought this for my son to use to prep the garden for new turf. He says it is brilliant, lightweight, easy to use and makes the job in hand very easy and fast. A very good price for an excellent item, and a fast delivery. Well worth the money and I would highly recommend it.

The Einhell and heavy clay soil
EllWe did lots of research before buying and I have to say we are very happy with our purchase. We live in an area of very heavy clay soil and wanted to level an area that was on a slight slope before laying turf. This meant in parts going down to the subsoil and trying to break it up so the area could be raked level. Something of a task for a machine of this price and size, but we found it was up to the job if we first used a fork to very roughly turn over the subsoil and then used the machine on the lumps of very heavy clay soil . Using it directly on the very compacted ground it tended to bounce around and not make much of an impression but I am sure using it on a lighter soil would be a breeze. We really could not have completed the task without the machine and ended up achieving what we wanted. It feels powerful to use but as a size 10 soon to be 60 year old lady I was able to manage it without much difficulty. A great machine for the price and with this newer model they appear to have sorted out the problem of it cutting out through overheating which was an issue highlighted in a number of Amazon customer reviews on the previous version.
