Much better than I had expected!
After my beloved 16 year old Boston 2.1 set died, I needed a new set which would give me comparable enjoyment at a price point of close to £200. The two systems on my shortlist ended up being the Corsair SP2500 and the Edifier S530D. I couldn't choose which, based on the reviews I found, so the final choice came down this set having digital inputs (as well as analogue ones) that the Corsair didn’t. I have never heard the Corsair so can't do a sound comparison. This is a solid feeling set and the style is a lot more mini hi-fi than PC. I like the wired remote – it looks quite cool and is very intuitive to use. The wireless remote can be ignored if you have no need of it and it can be stored in a slot at the rear of the wired remote stand. There is a good selection of basic level settings (all of which I prefer at +2). I found the ability to add bass to the whole set as well as separately adjust the sub-woofer output very useful in getting a sound I liked.I’ve tried everything from Baroque to recent Pop and found a single setting that worked well enough for me across that huge range. Yes, I could add more sub-woofer at low volume levels but I’ve experimented with this and not found it essential. For me, minor irritations would include the volume level returning to a factory set value (albeit reasonable with the Windows 7 volume fader centred) rather than remembering the last setting when the system is powered on at the mains and the system defaulting to standby when mains is applied meaning you’ve got to press a switch to wake the system up. The worst thing is that the headphone level (it uses the master speaker volume setting) is MUCH quieter – possibly a health and safety feature - than the speaker level. This can lead to a proper fright if you unplug the quiet phones to find the speakers instantly at peak volume!Another reviewer mentioned the easily scratched wired remote surface. This could be down to one of the best, strongest and tightest fitted protective plastic films I’ve ever seen! Although very sensitive to scratches, it’s good enough to be not essential to remove it. I was scared it might be the real surface and daren’t pick it off with my nail – not that I even could. After plucking up courage and a needle, it came off to reveal a pristine gloss surface underneath..whew!With my old ears, technical measurements of sound quality aren’t that useful - a completely subjective “do I like it?” is all that works for me. Nevertheless, that personal opinion is that this set is quite lively and detailed in the mid and upper frequencies coming from the satellites. Indeed, it can sometimes sound as if all the work is being done by those until you turn the sub down and notice it was quite subtly but effectively filling in the lower frequencies. Even so, with bass-heavy sound, the sub willingly steps up to make itself known. It’s obvious that this set is a lot more accurate than my old Bostons were. There’s a lot more detail and brightness from the satellites, which is not unexpected given the larger size and additional tweeter, but not having the always-hyperactive sub of the Boston set is also a revelation to me.Delivery (from Emax) was flawless and surprisingly rapid. Overall, I’m really pleased with the Edifier S530D system and would buy again without hesitation. At the £200 mark, I'd be surprised to find any serious criticism of this lovely set of speakers.

Excellent Speaker System
Just got these to replace an ancient Kenwood Setup that I've been using with my PC. Had a play around with them and so far I'm very impressed. The sound quality is great, very sharp and clear at all volumes. I'm hearing things in both music and game audio that I've not before. Build quality is excellent my only complaint is that there is no UK power cord included so one star off for that.

awesome
I've been looking for a new 2.1 speaker set for my desk top for a while, and came across the Edifier S530D . I was originally drawn to the Corsair 2.1 set, however I was put off by a couple of reviews that reported poor build quality and poor materials and the lack of optical connection . Eventually I decided to purchase the Edifier. I had never owned any Edifier equipment before, or heard of them prior to researching this purchase. While I could only find a couple of reviews on this product. All were positive.Upon receiving the product, the first thing you notice is the weight of the box. Most of the weight is in the Sub unit (constructed of MDF), and it weighs more than you would expect. The speakers are a good weight for their size and are (constructed of MDF), Over all the system is very well built and I'm extremely happy with the whole product, love the wired controller and wireless remote.down to the sound I think the sound is quality, it's not the loudest unit I've heard but that said its loud enough for the neighbours to complain volume at 30-35. I've not seen or heard of any other reviews mention that the volume goes to 50 max volume then + 6 POSITION BOOST, witch works on normal volume and headphones. I've used the system a lot over the past 2-3 weeks for music games and films, I have to play about with the settings for each different use.not problem for me, personal taste and all that. (for gaming its set everything to max volume around 30, sounds really good can hear things in games that I've not heard before)My only complainant is it's not loud enough on headphones even with the boost.(to get the extra boost on the volume go to max volume, then keep the button pressed on the wireless remote)overall really pleased with the whole package would recommend it and the build and sound quality alone justify the price-tag.
