Babydan Magnetic Drawer and Cupboard 4 Locks and 1 Key

This little lock is a god-send!
I looked at numerous locks and finally decided on these. I am not sorry I did.PROS1. These work great for kitchen presses and the adhesive is very strong.2. Should your little one manage to tear the adhesive off (mine did after picking repeatedly on one particular press every day for a month), fitting the two small wooden screws in place to re-secure the lock / latch takes less than 30 seconds.3. The Lock and the latch fit together snugly and the magnet will work (in my case) through a 1.5cm solid wooden door.4. There is no impact aesthetically as the lock and latch sit on the inside of the door with the magnet simply held against the door to release.5. With the click of a button on the latch, the lock will not engage when the drawer is closed. This is great when the little ones are in bed and you require some presses to be unlocked.CONS1. The instructions are terrible and this can lead to all sorts of problems with locking and installation which I will cover now.Locking - Let's look at the first product picture for these locks. This is ideally how the lock should be fitted, catching on a latch placed above the press / drawer. This is important because of a small counter-weight within the lock which keeps the lock in the up position, therefore automatically engaging with the latch when the drawer is closed. If you fit the lock parallel to this as is highlighted in the last product picture (essentially on its side), this counter-weight does not work (as it too is on its side and not impacted by gravity). Moving the key outside the press moves the lock left and right (locking and unlocking) but it will often not automatically engage when you close the door. Therefore when you close the door, you often need to swipe the key (to the left) to lock it. This is far from ideal and having installed this lock across 10 presses, some as pictured in photo 1 and some as pictured in photo 4, I took off all those locks set as 4 and moved them to 1 as I kept forgetting to swipe them locked.Installation - The second biggest challenge is actually fitting them in place (again because the instructions are abysmal) however the good news here is that when you do figure it out, it takes less than 30 seconds to install per press. Essentially each lock (picture 1) comes with two latches. I couldn't figure out how one of the latches connects to the lock so I discarded these latches (I suspect it is there to provide additional installation options). The second latch fits snugly with the lock to form one unit. Now, with the door open, remove the adhesive cover from the back of the latch and the back of the lock. Stick the latch to the top of the press a suitable distance in (to allow for the depth of the lock) and make sure it is securely in place. Now simply close the door and the inside of the door sticks to the adhesive on the back of the lock (obviously it has to make contact with the back of the lock to do this so don't attach the latch too far inside the top of the press) . Open the door and the lock should be attached to it (again as in picture 1). Make sure this is securely stuck to the door by pressing it firmly. Open the press and now look at your latch. Most of the latch breaks off (it is designed to, particularly the lock guide-rails) to only leave a plastic tab / plate which the lock engages with when the door is closed (almost no bigger than the strip of adhesive itself). This additional plastic is designed to allow the latch and lock to interconnect and to fit as one unit for installation. It is important to break off these plastic guide-rails as they will lead to issues smoothly closing the door and the lock engaging correctly!Overall, these are highly durable locks and attaching them using the adhesive strips alone will hold in most cases. As both the lock and the latch have tabs to facilitate small wood screws (which do little damage to the interior of the door), they can quickly be screwed in place whereby even the most enthusiastic child will be unable to open them. They are completely invisible when the door is closed and you don't have to fiddle around with a door partially open to unlock them. Simply moving the magnet to the door opens the lock fully. Although I'm tempted to give this 5/5, the instructions really do make installation unnecessarily difficult and hence the one dropped point.Oh, and make sure you have sufficient magnetic keys... We lost two of our three to only find out a week later our daughter as stuck one to the inside of a radiator and another to a baking dish :-)

Fabulous invention and worth the money
Well impressed. Who wants to screw things into their kithen cupboards? Not me thats for sure. Was very dubious that they would work but they do, and I have fairly thick block doors. Love how you stick rather than screw and the whole thing seems a great idea to me. I've tried pulling the cupboards fairly hard and they haven't opened. Time will tell if they will withstand a very detirmined and strong toddler but they are certainly a great line of defence. Working well on cupboards and a drawer in this house. And they can't be seen which is an extra bonus. My toddler had worked out how to open cheaper stick on ones (one the outside within minutes) so this is great and you don't have to try to get your hand in to open them either. Will be buying again when needed.

Good, but a pain to install & should come with extra sticky pads
This is not difficult to install but it is a bit too fiddly! If you don't get a perfect alignment on first try taking the backing off to reposition ruins the sticky surface. I had to resort to using spare Command Strips. This didn't always work. In the end only 1 of the 3 cupboard in my kitchen is utilising this as the others simply could not align and I can't be bothered to fight it it any more! That said for that 1 cupboard its attached to its great. The magnet to open and close is strong and the mechanism smooth. If installation was easier or it came with extra sticky pads I would probably rate it higher.

the worst product I have ever bought
Avoid !!! the worst product I have ever bought. I bought it after reading the good reviews and ignored the bad ones, I wish I didn't. Firstly, it is not smooth in putting this lock on, as while I was following the steps, 2 of them fell off due to the very weak glue used. However, after i left the third one to dry out for 24 hours as it is recommended and tried to use it on the following day, i opened the door very easily as if there is no lock. VERY AWFUL...... You can use the fridge lock sold by the same manufacturer instead, it can do the job plus it is much easier to put on but the glue is not that strong either. Hope this helps.

Absolutely fantastic. Nothing comparable to it!...but pricey!
If you are looking for a VERY easy, effective and quick way to fix and use cupboard/drawer locker, your search is done. This product is so good that any other crappy/plastic items with the same function is not even comparable. There are different combinations of locker and locker+key available, but if you are locking the same group of drawers you will need just one or two keys and one locker per door/drawer. It can be fixed in 30 seconds with an adesive strip (very strong!) and no baby will ever be able to open the door without the magnetic key. The key works easily through more than 1.5 inch of solid wood! 4 stars just because of the price (very high!) and the absence of sensible bundle options (i.e. 10 locks+2Keys etc...). Overall just perfect!

NOT GOOD
Im glad I waited a while to review these as at first I was quite pleased but they have all fallen off!I fitted as instructed but even still, straight away the cupboards didnt close on thier own without having to pull in certain directions as lock was blocking its smooth closure!some then stopped locking all together as the two mechanisms wouldnt connect, then they just fell off when my baby pulled hard enough!I got them initially as someone said that children work out how to open the more basic catches but I am inclined to take my chances now.

Great idea, but the locks are a bit flimsy and do break
This is a brilliant idea allowing doors to be locked without showing the lock externally. I use them in a holiday cottage to lock the linen and supplies cupboards, without showing lots of locked spaces. However, the little magnetised catch tips on really small bumps that work as the hinge and these often get broken, and you cannot buy just the locks, so I have about 6 of the magnetic keys.Positioning can be tricky - if you don't get it exactly right the lock won't work.
