Worked perfectly for me!
I bought a condo and it has a Frigidaire refrigerator, not the prettiest thing but it worked perfectly. One day I came home from work with some ice cream and when I opened the freezer it obviously wasn’t cold and the ice was almost completely melted, and the fridge part was warm, too. Figures that it happened 4 days after I had went shopping and stocked up on a bunch of frozen stuff. I looked at the tag inside and it said it was manufactured in 2003, so it was about 14 years old. I looked online and saw that a replacement motor on it was about $300 for the part alone, so I figured I’d just buy a new one. But while looking all this up I came upon websites saying that it’s rarely the motor that goes out, but the more often it’s the capacitor or start switch, and it’s an easy, inexpensive fix. That made me look into things deeper. I read websites and watched YouTube videos and somewhere along the way found a link to this item. For less than $10 and free 2-day shipping with Prime, definitely worth a try before shelling out the cash for a new fridge. After I got the part I pulled my fridge out, unplugged it and took a look. I don’t really have any experience doing work like this, but at my old condo we had a brand new GE Profile fridge and over 10 years we had repaired at least 3 times at about $200 each repair. The mechanicals of my Frigidaire looked nothing like the videos I had seen. Most of them seemed to have the capacitor plugged into the motor with the start switch connected to it, but mind had the start switch connected further inside the fridge. Still, since I was going to get a new fridge if this didn’t work I figured what did I have to lose by trying?? So I did made my best guess and unhooked the start switch then pulled out the capacitor. Sure enough, just like the internet said when I shook the capacitor, I could hear the broken pieces inside rattling around. It took me about ten minutes to hook up the wires to the Supco all in one. I took a good look at everything to make sure all the connections looked good, then I plugged her in, went around front and turned the fridge to cold, and she started purring like a kitten. A few seconds later I could feel cold air blowing in both the fridge and freezer. It worked!! Some websites and videos said this should only be a temporary fix until you get the expensive replacement parts, but other said it’s fine to keep it permanently, so that’s what I’m doing. Three weeks in it’s still working perfectly. I can’t believe how inexpensive and easy it was to fix my own fridge! I’ve been telling friends and family about it ever since. I kind of hope that someone else’s fridge will break so I can look like a hero when I fix it for them. :-) Anyway, I definitely recommend this part and also that you watch videos and read websites because that helped me in a big way, both in confidence and seeing how different brands of fridge look different inside. Save your money and fix it yourself with this!!

Fridge start kit
I ordered this for a bottom freezer refrigerator that I was having compressor start problems with. I was preparing to buy a new fridge prior to finding and researching this start kit. The compressor had finally quit starting and running even after buying and installing a new oem starter for the fridge which was more expensive than this Supco kit. I had previously tested the ohms on the compressor and it checked out fine with no grounding at all to the compressor case from the pins. There are good videos on youtube on how to test your compressor and how to install this kit. I believed that my compressor just needed a stronger capacitor to start and once started it would run just fine so I took the chance and ordered this Supco start kit . I received and wired in the Supco start kit using the package instructions and the only difference was that my oem switch had three wires, two white and one blue. I wired the two white wires to one of the Supco wires and the blue wire to the other and the fridge started right away and ran just fine, I couldn't believe it. No buzzing, no humming or any other issues. Some say these are temporary fixes suggesting that the compressors are on their way out if they won't start with the oem started and others have installed and ran these for months or years on their refrigerators. I have been watching my fridge closely after since this installation and after two full days of running flawlessly I am of the opinion that this starter with its larger capacitor is more in line with the capacitor size that these refrigerators should have installed on them when new instead of the marginal sized capacitors on the oem switches. Before this fridge I had an older fridge that ran for over 25 years with no compressor problems and I did not have to change one part on it during that whole time. I have replaced the electronic board on this existing fridge after only 6 years and after 9 years now the compressor was not starting and the new oem part wasn't starting it either. They do not make them like they used to! Remember this is my opinion and of course I will wait and see how long this will last but the fridge hasn't missed a beat since the Supco was installed. Opinions, as you will find when you research this part vary greatly so you have to listen to all sides no matter how ridiculous some of them sound and decide. So far I have saved or extended the life of my almost 1100 dollar fridge and only time will tell. If it goes again then I will concede and buy a new fridge because compressor costs and the tools to change them are just too expensive. I will update if this fix last less than 6 months. Thanks for reading and good luck fixing your fridge. Update: 12/18/2014 This part is still working fine but my compressor finally bit the dust and won't run so I guess it was on it's way out when I first had the start issues. I did however, get an additional 3 months use out of the fridge using this part.

Universal enough to even fix a 1970s Frigidaire Freezer!
I have a Frigidaire upright freezer that was built in the late 70s that was starting irregularly and the compressor was getting hot. The starting mechanism was clicking and rattling several times before the compressor would finally kick on. With the parts being obsolete, this hard start kit did the trick and fixed my freezer. The compressor kicks on effortlessly now and I am no longer concerned about the freezer breaking down completely. Install was easy using the diagram on the package and cutting 2 easily identified wires to splice in the kit with the supplied wire nuts. I added electrical tape for a secure connection then zip tied the assembly to a metal crossbar near the compressor. It's been a few weeks now and I am so glad I found this kit to keep my freezer running because they don't make them like they used to anymore and my freezer is a tank with a new lease on life.

Great Compressor Starter But The Wiring Leads Leave Something To Be Desired
I had a spare refrigerator compressor that I modified into a vacuum pump for air conditioning work. I didn't have a starter for the compressor so bought this one with the hopes that it would do the job. It does indeed work perfectly and from a functional perspective I've got no complaints. The problem I have is the pin connectors for the Tecumseh compressor plug can swivel around and short each other out. This may not be a problem if you're putting this item in an appliance but even then I'd be a little nervous about them moving around. Ultimately I put some heat shrink tubing on the connectors so if they do spin around on the pins, the will not short. There's also no great way to attach the starter. It's got a plastic clip on it kind of like a belt clip on a knife which you really can't slide onto anything. I used a couple of zip ties to do the job. None of these detract from the fact that this starter works excellently on Tecumseh style 3 pin compressors. Just be aware that like with any generic part you'll have to do a little engineering to make it work.

Saved Me!
Our refrigerator (2-year-old GE side-by-side bought in 2016) died over a weekend when we were away and we came back to a smelly mess that cost about $300 in lost food. Of course, being a DIY repairman I set about trying to figure out what was wrong. I buried myself into the world of internet "fixes" and came upon this item as being a possible culprit and it was confirmed by that "Ask an expert" website where you chat with experts for only a 30 dollars or so and give your description of the problem and then they tell you what they think the problem is and how to fix it yourself. They said it sounded like my compressor "start relay and capacitor" had fried for some reason and that I should try replacing it as I could hear it start for a few seconds but then stop for a minute, and then start for a few seconds, stop, repeat over and over. I researched the part in question and found a much more affordable option. Instead of spending about $80 for the same unit, I got this Supco for under $15 after reading all the positive reviews. I installed this unit and my fridge compressor instantly went back on for good and it has been working like new for a month now but we did notice a lot of condensation dripping down the walls inside the fridge. But I think the wetness helped solve the mystery of why the old unit died which was actually a loose door problem. We noticed for a while our refrigerator door was a little crooked compared to the freezer door and we did the paper test to see if the seal was tight and the paper just fell into the fridge from the top. There was no good seal and we had noticed lots of ice had built up in the back of both the freezer side and the fridge side a few months before it died. I imagine the big ice build-up somehow kept the fans from spinning freely which created electrical resistance which fried the start relay. Once we straightened the door, the humidity totally left the fridge and we again have a nice modern fridge. It was so simple to fix as there is a little screw at the bottom of the door you just turn until you see your door level again. After we leveled it, it passed the paper test with ease. Hope this info helps somebody else as a visit from a repairman in my area (Philly) is at least $160.

I wish I had bought this before the expensive OEM Starter relay / capacitor
Like others have said, this works great and got my 10 year old Kenmore side by side working again. The symptom was that instead of the compressor starting, it made a buzzing noise for a few seconds and then the overload clicks and it goes quiet. This happens over and over every 5 minutes or so. I noticed this a few months ago, but didn't pay much attention to it because it did eventually start and the fridge stayed cold. When it quit altogether, I bought an expensive OEM starter relay + capacitor (plus super expensive overnight shipping) and installed them. That seemed to help, but less than a week later, it was dead again. Installing the Supco kit was almost as easy as the OEM part. The instructions are clear and it comes with everything you need. I've only had it installed for a few days, but my fridge starts every time, runs quiet and stays cold. I know the compressor is partly worn out, so there is no way to know how long this will last. I did a lot of research and it seems most people get another few years, though there were some accounts of many years. In any case, it's a simple, inexpensive way to delay having to replace an expensive appliance. For those confused about which model to get, the 400 series are for full size refrigerators / freezers and the 800 series are for smaller units.

Maybe it'll work for you?
I don't know appliance repair. However I'm handy and understand most things mechanical and electrical. I had a chest freezer die, and several online resources listed this part specifically as the fix. I installed it and my freezer did begin to work again. However it was on an GCFI protected outlet prior to it's initial failure, this wasn't a problem even though it's not code to do this. Using this part, it would trip the outlet. Plugged into a non-protected circuit it would run, but it ran hot. Took about 3 weeks and the freezer stopped working again. Think it seized the compressor. Because I don't know if this was actually the part I needed and relied on internet experts for help, I cannot say if a defect part, or the wrong part that killed my freezer. No one would work on my freezer and even then a service call was nearly the price of the freezer, so it was my inexpensive attempt to fix it. A technician could have told me my freezer was junk for a lot more money, I at least had fun blowing up the motor.

Reliable and Effective Replacement Part
Great product! This is a very common replacement part for refrigerator units, and it works exactly as expected. I’ve tried different types before, but none have been as effective or reliable as this one. Easy to install and does the job well—highly recommend keeping one on hand for quick fixes.

Got my fridge running
Lucky it's cold outside, my fridge contents could last a few days outside my door and wasn't a big inconvenience. This device managed to save my Fridge, so for $20 and a 20 minute install that's just awesome. The instructions printed on the back of the cardboard cover on the bag, are OK but here's a few quick tips: - Pay attention to the color coding of the wires, the picture on the back has two of the wires reversed in their picture. So, as long as you put the right color on your fridge (don't switch colors just because the picture is off on the instructions) - There's 3 pins on your fridge that you attach this device to, Starter, Relay and Common. Common is on the bottom, Red (Starter) is on the Right, and White (Relay) goes on the left. - The two extra ground/common wires go to the blue and black wires that were detached when the relay/starter is removed. Cut them, use a wire stripper to connect the ground leads and use the orange morrette to ensure a good connection. - Finally if you have an extra red wire, like mine did just leave it. Maybe add some electrical tape to ensure the wire does't hit anything. Hope this helps, great way to see if your Compressor is blown or if the problem is with the Starter or Relay.

A simple, inexpensive fix
The compressor on my five year old Frigidaire chest freezer stopped running, and I thought I'd have to replace the freezer. Then I saw a video about this product on YouTube, and thought I'd give it a try. I installed it in less than 20 minutes, and the compressor started immediately. Delivery was fast, and the installation couldn't have been simpler. This little gadget saved me a lot of money. Highly recommended.

Fixed Embraco EMX 70HSC
My Kenmore fridge’s compressor (Embraco EMX 70HSC) would start for a few seconds then stop. This product fixed the issue. It’s been a couple of months and things are still fine.
