I have no scientific proof that this product works. How can you tell? However, it has been approved by the Skin Cancer Association and I assume that they are satisfied that it does work. I have a medical condition which means that I am extremely sensitive to sun light and I have to stay covered up at all times. Most people assume that if they are wearing clothes, they are protected from sunlight but this is not the case. A cotton top. for example, only provides SPF5 protection which is very low. If you wash your clothes in this product it gives them a protective coating equivalent to SPF30, so much greater protection. It only works with natural materials such as cotton. It does not work with man-made materials. The coating is invisible and the material still feels exactly the same. It lasts for around 20 washes and then needs to be re-applied. It is very easy to use - just put it in your washing machine. I used it on clean clothes and used sunguard on its own, without any detergent. I think that this is a useful product and it gives me the reassurance that I have additional protection from the sun. If you are going to be holidaying in a very hot climate, it may be worth using this before you go.

I bought this product as I am hyper sensitive to UV and was going on my first beach holiday and didn't want to get burned through clothing. It doesn't work on polyester based clothing but on most of the clothing I used it on (cotton/rayon/linen) it washed in well with no visible after effects. I did wash one nylon skirt in it and it has lost some of the flow and gone a little cardboard like so just take care what you choose to use it on. I was using it on clothing destined to be covered in suncream so I wasn't bothered. I didn't get burned through my clothing but I kept in the shade a lot so it didn't really get a huge test in terms of UV protection.

Smaller than pictured it looks like a full size thing of detergent for your clothing, but I hope it works. It's just smaller than anticipated especially for the price.
