Bought a few of these now.

Martindale testers have been around for decades, are simple to use and reliable. I quickly found out some of my sockets had live and neutral reversed - so much for professional installers!!

This will tell you if you have power or various combinations of crossed mains wires etc and works OK but I wish I had bought the version with the buzzer. With an audible warning if there is power to the socket I do not have to keep checking at the consumer unit. Apart from that it is handy, sturdy and small enough to have in your tool bag.
