Asmodee Ghost Stories Board Game

I purchased Ghost Stories - which is my first in the `cooperative' genre actually, because it had been drawn to my attention via a YouTube Video that this was as good a game to play solo as it was with others, and as I don't always have someone to play my games with, thought it may be a good idea to try.Despite having a collection of around 700 board games - and been collecting now for more years than I care to remember, I did not realise they made games that could be played solo! Of course, any game can be played solo really - if one were to take the role of two players - but I can't see that would be much fun, and so when I spotted this, and learned there were quite a few other solo games out there too, I thought I'd have to try it, as it may well open some doors for me to more titles!When I first received it, it did look very complicated in comparison to the average and pretty straight forward type of board games that I collect and am familiar with. I read the rules, and as the most part was geared to the four player game, I was rather disappointed initially, but there was to my great delight, a section also dedicated to the solo payer - and so it is obvious that this game has catered for that side. This helped a bit, but to be honest, the best thing that helped me, was a WONDERFUL set of videos on YouTube showing a solo game in progress from start to finish - this was what really helped me understand and really get into this game - since, I've never stopped playing...This is a VERY absorbing game - particularly during this hot weather when it was really too warm to do much else, I was able to pass hours quite absorbed and oblivious to the uncomfortable heat!There's good quality components - though I must confess at my horror at some of the prices of these co-op games, as for the most part, they are mainly cardboard... At least there are a few plastic components with this one - and a small collection of interesting dice which I love! However; I could recommend this game to anyone.Personally, it will be a game I shall always play alone; somehow having only ever played it that way - and discovered it that way, I've become a bit mean, and don't want to share the experience. :-)A fabulous and very atmospheric game, and worth every penny, since I'm certainly getting my money's worth, but be warned; there's a LOT to think about!

This is a fantastic co-operative board game. It sets up and plays fast, and provides a real challenge! The theming and artwork is really cool too. Only thing I would say is be prepared to lose over and over before winning- the game is very difficult to win even on the “easy” difficulty setting, and there is also quite a bit of luck needed. I would also suggest that while the artwork is cartoony, this may be a little scary for young kids.

This game took us quite a while to get to grips with. I would recommend looking for a couple of online tutorial videos as well as reading the rules as it helped me enormously. An extremely challenging game - even the rules warn you not to be too frustrated if you don't win the first few times you play it! All that said, I really enjoy Ghost Stories. Play as a Taoist monk to ward off evil ghosts and ghouls with the help of various villagers and defeat the boss, Wu-Feng. The villagers all have different abilities, the ghosts all have different abilities, the Taoists all have different abilities...you have to halt the advancing ghosts whilst also ensuring the villages don't get haunted as well as attempting to keep the Taoists alive...it can be a nightmare! It certainly takes time sitting with the rule books the first few times you play to get a grasp of all the abilities but well worth it. Very different to other co-operative board games I've played. Also, playing alone is a totally different experience to playing with other team members. Really good quality game as well - you get your monies worth with this one.

Played this game as solo and the game ended in about 20 minutes as I was over run. Came across as a very difficult game, but thinking back, I probably didn't think carefully enough about each move.Played a game today with my 2 brothers; it lasted about 3 hours. We debated in length at the best way to deal with most moves. Having to think 2/3 moves ahead. There are more complicated games than this; it didn't take long to explain the rules to them, but we all had a brilliant time playing it, fantastic co-op game. I will definitely be trying to get a few mates round to have another go.The game is made up of smaller pieces of board that come together and create a good looking board game, some great art. It plays very well, however I would say sometimes it can be hard to find a specific rule you want to know from the manual. At the start you can feel like you're coping well but as you get into it it is a constant battle to keep your head above water. A lot of the time there are ways out of a seemingly impossible situations; you just have to work together and plan ahead!

This would be a great game regardless, but the beautiful artwork and the strong theme (reminds me fondly of the wonderful film "A Chinese Ghost Story") make it a masterpiece in my opinion. Lots of fun for all the family - I've played it solo, with friends and with my wife and young children and it's been well received in every case. It's very challenging, particularly before you learn a few winning strategies - you really do feel surrounded and under pressure from the start. But, as it's a co-operative game, the fun comes in playing together rather than winning, so there's never any tears from the little ones (or me) when we do lose (which is often).We bought the White Moon expansion shortly after, and I can also highly recommend that as a great addition to the basic game.

The first time we played this, we ended up playing it three times in a row. We didn't come close to saving the poor villagers but had a brilliant time battling a whole host of strange and ghastly spirits. We quickly found our favourite monks and unique powers, refining our strategy and we have come tantalisingly close to beating the game on the first level of difficulty. This game will stay on my shelf as the unique theme and superb artwork draw you in and the challenge is always there. It's an ideal game for Halloween - full of atmosphere but not scary at all.

Un gioco che amo in particolare,collaborativo e strategico,si può giocare anche in 1.Un gioco che mette alla prova le abilità dei giocatori contro il gioco stesso,lo amo.Per chi piacciono i giochi leggeri questo non è sicuramente raccomandato,per chi vuole giocare in collaborazione e ragionare di strategia questo è il gioco ideale.Capire il gioco è semplice,si hanno 4 monaci(taoisti) ad ogni turno di pesca una carta fantasma da li si sceglie se combatterlo o eseguire altre azioni esempio chiedere aiuto alle tessere villaggio.Regole spiegate abbastanza bene,qualche cosa secondo il mio parere le regole dovevano metterle in modo più ordinato.5 STELLE!

Maravilloso juego colaborativo. La dificultad es muy elevada, y se necesitan varias partidas para desarrollar adecuadamente las estrategias que te conduzcan al éxito. Funciona muy bien en modo solitario. Pese a ser, en el fondo, muy abstracto, la tematización está muy conseguida y el arte gráfico consigue introducirte en la historia. Como primer acercamiento a los juegos colaborativos no es muy recomendable, ya que puede provocar frustración; sin embargo, para jugadores medianamente acostumbrados se trata de una joya.Imprescindible.

Haven't tried playing it solo yet, but this game is a lot of fun !You're very tempted to cheat the first couple of times, and you should - that way you get to learn from your mistakes and see how the game unfolds. Once you start playing for real though, oh boy, watch out ! This is worse than a zombie apocalypse, you are definitely going to die before the 1st season ends. The rules are a bit confusing and need a couple rereads, but you can find PDF cheat-sheets on-line.An average game takes about 1 hour (for 2-3 players). I bought this game because it matched the following criteria:- fun (lot's and lot's of it !)- no time limit (you can listen to some music, drink some wine, joke around)- easy to play (once you grasp the rules, one's turn is swiftly played)- cooperative (100%, no personal objectives, only 1 common one)- friendly to new players (and they won't feel left behind since it's cooperative)Also, the theme and cards are pretty bad-ass !I highly recommend this ;-)

Jeu excellent, je l'ai acheté à ma soeur après avoir regardé les jeu coopératifs les mieux notés. Chaque partie est différente car on tire au sort les pouvoirs de nos personnages, idem pour une partie des fantômes que l'on affronte. Le jeu est d'ailleurs très difficile, il nous a fallu pas mal de parties avant de réussir. C'est un jeu où tout peu basculer à tout moment et chaque action peut coûter la victoire... seul regret, la notice est plus qu'incomplète à mon sens car nous nous sommes souvent retrouvées dans des situations sans savoir quelle règle appliquer. Les règles sont d'ailleurs très nombreuses et il faudra quelques parties pour tout retenir et ne pas faire d'erreur. Les parties sont assez longues (1h en moyenne je pense, en tout cas quand nous jouions à 2) et même à 2 le jeu est top.Un excellent jeu de coopération!
