Zen and the art of woodwork.
I saw this in a bookshop in Kuala Lumpur and later bought a kindle version. I had hoped to buy a 21st century version of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. Reading the first few chapters I thought I was wrong, but it was an enjoyable read. Nearer the end I realised that I had what I had hoped for, and will encourage my children to get copies.

Summat and Nowt
In the wild and woolly vernacular of Yorkshire (UK) something that promises everything and delivers nothing is called “summat and nowt” This book is an example. The author is a carpenter who builds high end constructions in the homes of the ultra rich . Nothing wrong in that, but it’s like trying to describe a spiral staircase without using your hands - something the author asks us to do by using words. There are no photos of his works , just a few line drawings of construction plans. These are not enough to enable the reader visualise the work being described. As one makes their way through the book this becomes increasingly frustrating. I gave up adding this title to those books I started but did not finish. I did get two things from the book: 1) The author is a skilled carpenter but a poor descriptive author. 2) The ultra rich have a capacity for spending money that will astonish.
