We’ve changed from professional video editing to using vertical video for TikTok as a way of promoting news. So out went the Sennheiser and in came the wireless camera phone lavaliere microphones, which typically work well when doing one on one interviews, but when it comes to using on podiums for press conferences? I’ve had my share of difficulty finding ways of clipping them on, and I hate asking ENG crews to use their cables as attaching points. You see how the unit looks but this is a clip of a presser on the water’s edge with gale force winds. No, the mic that the emcee holds isn’t the mic source. He uses a speaker aimed at the audience. My microphone is the one with the orange wind screen, which did a MARVELOUS job of suppressing the wind sounds. Maybe it was the dual foam? But look at the choppy waves on a small River, and the hair and clothing being whipped around. What a terrific display of how valuable this wind screen can be, as it worked flawlessly. The bottom of the mic holder has a 1/4”-20 female attachment but what I’ve learned is that the best kind of attachment is a dual crab claw clamp (which was purchased here for about $14). The clamp allows for easy clamping and adjusting even with multiple ENG mics clustered together on a podium or mic tree. It’s very light in weight and the small mic inside was held snugly by the foam, which shows that it’s actually quite capable of securing your lav without any shaky sounds during use. The staff at work saw how the holder performed and they’ve now asked for a link in order to issue others this Movo. And they’re now discussing about adding a flag to each as well. Bravo, Movo. The only thing that’s disappointing is finding a proper case that can hold the Movo, the dual crab clamp, foam covers and the wireless kit. I’d love a vertical pouch that can connect to a fanny pack system like ThinkTank.
