What Color is My Patka?

It’s a cute book. I got 2 and added one to my child’s classroom collection. It’s simple and talks about a little boy and his imagination.In other words, it connects with every child while says ‘I look different but I am really not’

I love the way the character, Ricky, helps the reader learn about what it means to be a Sikh while showing that he is just like any other child who loves pretending to be a pilot or a firefighter and playing soccer! Ricky picks out a different color Patka for every day of the week while also reinforcing color and days of the week concepts. Brilliantly written!

Simply written, attention grabbing, beautifully illustrated, and lovable by kids. This book appeals to both my 3 and 6 year old and has filled our nightly book reading slot for the last two weeks! We love reading about Ricky, his different colored patkas, and how he decides to wear them each day. I will be definitely sending this book into my children’s school for diversity awareness and education. Love the book!!

A simple fun read for children with tone rhymes & cool Illustrations. It helps the reader to recognize and understand the culture as young children face so much diversity in character & appearance in the schools. The author has done a great job about few important facts of Sikhism! I feel strongly about the book to be added to school libraries!

The book does an awesome job of portraying the dreams of a young boy and linking them to culture. The book is not just about Sikh culture. It is a broad representation of self-belief and identity, and how you can tie them to daily aspects of your life. Strongly recommended for every child and parent to read together. Kudos to the author!

This is a great book to have in all elementary classroom and school libraries. When we know better, we do better. Just the right amount of detail for this age/attention span. My kids wanted to dive deeper into Sikhism after reading! A great jumping off point.

My kids loved learning about Patkas and the Sikh religion in this cute book! I highly recommend getting this book for your home libraries!
