i was hesitant to buy this one because reviews said the flow was too slow….i needed it for my mom who has alzheimer’s and this was the only option after searching on amazon. it came today, there were safestraws…when i first trued it the flow was so slow like the reviews said. I removed the float, and just used the safestraw cylinder and valve….and amazing…got the perfect flow to prevent my mom from choking…now i can keep the straw in my mom’s mouth and let her sip as long as she wants. thank you safestraw…remove that float part and you will sell a lot of these.

Very cheaply made for such a high price. It was four wrapped restaurant straws and the “syringe”with a little white plastic “bullet” in it. Speech therapist recommended it but it is not practical especially for someone with learning difficulties.

This type of straw was recommended for helping elderly parent to not choke while sipping drinks. It is something that happens sometimes as we age. We have seen a big difference in our parent being able to drink and not choke like she was before with a normal straw. Easy to clean and use over and over.

This product is not going to work for our family member. Maybe it would work for someone with different needs. We just need to make sure our family member only drinks one sip or so at a time - not a half cup without taking a breath. The sips that come out of this straw are very small. We would never be able to get an adequate amount of fluids down.Also, even if the straw would have worked, it is too tall to fit in our "straw cups" as we would have wanted.

I bought this for my daughter. She couldn’t get any liquid to come up at all.

Anyone with this decision needs to strong to keep the aspirating it works very well. Would be nice if some extra straws included to go on the top.

As a speech therapist, I work with people who have swallow disorders on a daily basis. This is great for all the people I work with who are very impulsive, and don't follow directions very well. This would be good for people with impulse control issues, or who have cognitive deficits which may prohibit them from following directions very well. It provides a set amount of fluids at any one time, and allows the swallow mechanism to protect the airway during swallowing. I would just like to see that you could use with standard straws so you didn't have to waste money on specialty items. Cleaning is okay, but would like something you could trial with more than one person, and be able to sanitize between use.

my husband does not like it because it restricts his drinking thickened drinks but it's what the Dr ordered
