Re: Cutie Honey [Blu-ray]

I remember years ago in the early days of YouTube when I saw a split up version of this 3 episode OVA based on a live-action movie that came out at the same time, and now it's in my hands, and it is glorious! The OVA is basically a retelling of Honey Kisaragi's battle against Panther Claw, but with a few twists, instead of her having a double life as a high school student, she now works at an office building, complete with the struggles, her bestie Natsuko isn't her bestie, but instead a badass cop whose feelings for Honey after a while are about as subtle as a flying mallet, and Seiji isn't a journalist, but now an interpol agent trying. Who whole OVA is basically an affectionate parody, while still being a solid entry in it's own right, while the middle chapter of this is kinda weak, the 1st and 3rd episodes are awesome, with the 3rd having Hideaki Anno's signature psychological torture, but episode 1 is the best for how zany and badass it is thanks in part because it was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (the madman behind Gurren Lagann, Panty & Stocking, Kill La Kill, Promare, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners), the Blu-ray is sharp and clean, with a brand new dub featuring the familiar voice of Jessica Calvello as Cutie Honey herself, if you're a fan of this series, or a fan of either Anno or Imaishi, you won't be sorry if you purchase it

Good OVA, I bought it randomly without doing any research and it was a good decision.

I bought this on an impulse, not really knowing anything about it. The first episode had me laughing my ass off, the jokes are really unexpected. Hilarious and kind of sexy too, lots of nudity, so it’s not for younger audiences.

First discovered Cutie Honey as a result of the 2004 live action movie Directed by Neon Genesis Evangelion creator and Shin Godzilla Director Hideaki Anno. Despite being somewhat low budget it was fun and got me interested in the character. So I checked out the manga and all of her animated iterations and enjoyed them and knew that Anno was involved with an OVA animated spinoff i.e. RE: Cutie Honey. Been waiting for years for a bluray release with English subtitles and now it's finally here and I can say that it's now one of my favorite anime's ever. It's a feature length story split into three chapters that should have been released theatrically as its quality stands up to anything I've ever seen. Just great on every level; story, characters, style, animation, music etc.... Pure fun from start to finish with plenty of "fan service" and a surprising amount of emotional depth that lets you get invested in the characters. Even if you know nothing of Cutie Honey this stands up on its own and can be enjoyed even by those unfamiliar with her which is why I highly recommend it.

GOD I love this show. The disc is clean, the case was well-sealed, and it has the english dub (which is way better than I thought it would be tbh). Great stuff!

Really enjoyed watching this, I found it funny and entertaining as with previous Cutey Honey adaptations. This one answered some questions about her I was wondering. No spoilers, it gives more insight one her orgins and her personality. Lots of nudity as always, just how I like it too.

Finally!!!!! I've been waiting for this version of the lovely warrior Cutie Honey to come out, now SHE HAS COME!!!! Includes an all new English Dub and other goodies. Very beautifully detailed now in every sense since the last time I saw some of it on YouTube moons ago. Now, we just need the blu-ray re-release of the original series from the 70's English Dub included just like they did for the original Lupin The 3rd part 1. Maybe someday, and it WILL happen. 5 STARS, HONEY FLASH!!!!!!
