I have purchased many different ferro rods but I can say this one throws good sparks. Easier to use than most ferro rods this size! I teach beginner bushcraft classes and love this one for demos!

This thing works! My 7yo is obsessed with the Outdoor Boys and wanted one. He is able to get great sparks out of it and can start a fire with ease.

I bought this when teaching a youth group how to start a fire without matches or lighters. It went amazing, the Ferro rod it big and gives plenty of striking surface to make big sparks. We build a little stick cabin and out a cotton ball smeared with petroleum jelly in the middle. A couple sparks from this thing and you have a nice fire going. I use it a lot, that’s why it looks dirty and beat up in the pictures. I would highly reccomend this.

I'm very impressed with this rod and it is secondary to another rod that I got from amazon. It's rated for about $18,000 strikes and so far it has lived up to the hype of being an absolute good rod that is a must-have in anybody's kit. They also have good Strikers and the Paracord adds an element that most other makers just don't have. What I'm seeing is a lot of people don't add paracord in a good solid Striker usually they're very cheap and flimsy for the price of one of these and what you get it's almost impossible to beat this including some of your brand name gold standard rods. It's very hard and it does shower good Sparks with the right striker. Try using ceramic Strikers for the best sparks. I absolutely love that these guys are also established and you can get combo deals and great service.

This thing is seriously heavy duty. It’s actually quite large and heavy, so be aware of that. You can expect it to last a long time and never fail, but you should consider other options if size and weight are considerations.
