The thickness of the reinforced wood boards, within the protective covering, make it impossible to feel the crossbars inside the sleeper frame. The product boards run perpendicular to the frame, and are easy to place/remove. The support board folds like a fan, making it easy to store, taking up little closet space. We experienced no sliding of the mattress on the protective cover. Between the two of us, about 400 pounds was on the bed, and both of us were comfortable.
