Worthwhile addition to my Simplisafe system
This is a worthwhile addition to my simplisafe system, which I've had for about 15 years. Excellent products, excellent company, and excellent customer service. I have a gas furnace and water heater within 5 feet of each other so I placed this on the ceiling between the two. The instructions were clear, not only how to install it, but to set it up so my app, which lists all of the other items in my system now shows the condition of the batteries, and whether they're on or off for all my SimpliSafe products.

Small price for safety
These work well. Thankfully, I haven’t had an actual emergency and I hope to never actually needing them, but I did have a false alarm. That may sound annoying, but it taught me that SimpliSafe will call you IMMEDIATELY. They were very proactive so I feel safe. It was also incredibly easy to install at a reasonable price.

Received next day and resolved the dreaded 2am BEEP!
That famous "BEEP" and I thought I needed to replace batteries in either my smoke or carbon monoxide detector... both reported good batteries, so I figured out it was the one carbon monoxide detector that was being the trouble maker. So... I changed the batteries and only when I did that did I get a message in my system that the unit was "at the end of useful life" and it needed to be replaced. Well.... I wish it would have said that FIRST!... so SimpliSafe now only sells the combo sensor, which is good and bad. Good as it is a combo, one unit to deal with. Bad as now if I do want to take down the other smoke detector that is 20' away.... I have to patch the holes in the ceiling and paint. Not a biggie, just a note.

Central fire alarm and CO.
Easy to use, and install. Sometimes I wish they made it a bit harder to get going. Always use to look forward to those little install challenges. Not any more with SimpliSafe. It’s crazy… pull the battery tab and find a suitable location. How ever, some feed back. I feel like fire/co alarms have gotten to sensitive to some stuff. Would be nice to adjust some of it. I understand why they don’t. Also allowing you to pick out the alarm bell sound. With these products, I feel like some of these bell sounds blend. Otherwise, this is the best purchase for anyone with a SimpliSafe system. Don’t waste money on a 59.99 Home Depot special.

Good for smoke, sub-optimal for CO.
A little background. I am a paramedic and have over a decade of experience in Fire/EMS services here in the US. I will be keeping this product, but purchasing another CO alarm. I believe everybody should do the same. This product fully functions as expected of a smoke alarm, but I cannot endorse it as a CO alarm. This product will only alarm at a CO detection value of 400ppm. For reference, the area around a furnace is roughly 20ppm normally and safe 8hr TWA is like 35ppm. The NIOSH recommends leaving an area at 100ppm and at 200ppm 30-45min of exposure causes nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, and can be fatal after hours of exposure. I have cared for patients who have died from a few hours of 300ppm exposure. Now I wonder if they had CO alarms that didn’t even alarm, since alarms that only alarm at 400ppm are legal. What does this all mean? This smoke detector/CO alarm combo is perfectly suitable for smoke protection, but is not ideal as a CO alarm solution. Because it takes a medium-high range to alarm, steady but dangerous lower level exposure can go unnoticed. Otherwise, the product works will with the SimpliSafe system, it was easy to install, and easy to mount. UPDATE! After contacting the support team I was informed product will alarm at ranges: it alarms at 70ppm after 1-4hrs and at 150ppm within 10-50min. Which is better. The information is on a separate CO flyer, which was not present in the boxes. So I have amended my review to 4 stars, but while better I personally would prefer to know a little sooner.

Replacement for Untrusted Brand
So far, so good. It was easy to install two of these. I hope they work. I installed these to replace X-Sense smoke and carbon monoxide detectors I purchased from Amazon just over 5 years ago. Those detectors regularly passed the self-test when I pushed the button on them. But they never sounded over 5 years, despite a few episodes of very smoky cooking. This made me suspicious and so I did some investigating. I found, yesterday, that Amazon was asked to quit selling X-Sense smoke alarms because the brand apparently let their UL or Intertek certification lapse. Amazon complied by discontinuing sales of the X-Sense detector. Note: The X-Sense detectors I bought 5 years ago did have an Intertek logo on the back. But I lost confidence in the brand based on the reported lapse of certification and my experience of having no alarms triggered in some smoky conditions over the last 5 years.
