Exelent book!

I've been a private investigator for twelve years. Read many books on the topic. This is by far, the best well put and easy to understand Private investigator book for a private investigator who's just starting in the field, or a private investigator who's been in the field for twenty years. Excellent book!!!

Very informative and especially good for PI's in Virginia

Very informative and especially good for PI's in Virginia. I have been a registered PI in Virginia for 10 years and I found this book to be helpful and factual. He nails the regulations and gives some great examples from real experience. A "must-read" for new PI's and a good review for those "old guys"...

reads like a stereo pamlet, but it's a book

Maybe I'm being harsh, but this is a good book to make the decision to make that step. I say this because I got a new book that takes all the guess work out with valuable websites and more. This book is also really bias to the East Coast and he makes that clear by saying " find out your local requirements. No book in print will lay it out state by state. Some states require no PI license. hint: a book for idiots(incorrectly named)

Both informative and annoying

There is a good deal of basic information contained within this book, and it is worth committing to memory, though most of this profession is something one learns from experience. While most of the book is plain information, well-organized, I did find it annoying anytime the author's personality came through; he is a college professor in DC, and it certainly shows. Those who are able to read between the lines may find themselves wishing they were not intelligent enough to do so as they navigate Mr. Becnel's book. Overall, it is useful knowledge.

Solid book and gave a great overview of what private investigating is

Solid book and gave a great overview of what private investigating is. I would suggest reading it before getting into the profession. Also, it's more or less a text book, so don't expect it to be riveting with excitement.
