Traveller roleplaying game Starter Set Box Set by Mongoose Publishing MGP40008 Perfect Paperback – November 13, 2017

I haven't gotten to run the game yet due to the public health situation, but it's the best-made RPG starter box I've had. The books are nice, not just little pamphlets on light paper like Call of Cthulhu or D&D (which to be fair are like a third the price), and I think they contain the full core rulebook, so you don't need to buy anything extra to continue playing after you finish the box contents.Also they've solved the constant problem with getting the books out of the box by putting a ribbon under them like electronics used to have under the batteries. The box came (shrink-wrapped) missing book 2, but I contacted Mongoose and they sent a free replacement all the way from the UK.

Wow. This is the highest quality starter box set for an RPG I’ve ever purchased, and as a fan of starter sets, I’ve purchased quite a few over the years. The quality of the three booklets is exactly the same high quality as the core rulebook hardback. The quality of the box itself is second to none.I bought this hoping for a more basic introduction to the rules in general and character creation in particular. However, the text in the booklets is lifted seemingly verbatim from the core rulebook. Sure, you’re not getting the core rulebook in the booklets, but you’re not getting a different introduction to the rules, either.At this price point, I’d be a bit hard pressed to recommend this starter set to anyone who also wants the core rulebook in the near future. This starter is perfect for someone who wants an almost-complete game experience in one box. Having the starter set and the core rulebook in your collection without having played the game yet (like me) is a bit of an overkill.I hate to say it, but if Mongoose had cheapened the production quality some on this box set and, in turn, reduced the price point, the starter set would be a lot easier to recommend. If you’re more generous than I am, a game master could loan out the two rule booklets from this set to a player without a core rulebook, and use the campaign booklet, maps, and pregenerated characters for a cool campaign!

Love Traveller and have been waiting for this. Really love the huge map (roughly 40"x 27.5", one side is blank (basically 1 sector gridded off into 16 subsectors, the other Calidan Sector and its not black but grey-ish so you can drop something transparent over it and use all colors of dry-erase markers and they actually show up).Book 1 Characters and Combat- Same Core Rulebook character generation but in a smaller, easier to flip thru bookBook 2 Spacecraft and Worlds. Same as above but for some reason the Psion Class and PSI talents are in this book and not in Book 1Book 3 The Fall of Tinath, really good adventure book and wont toss in any spoilers.For any Traveller GMs that love the game but the normal universe is insanely intimidating with the tens of thousands of worlds, this campaign is really nice as it focuses on only a handful of worlds and is way easier to manage.

Love the “starter set”. Well made and full of extras. Has all the rules except a small 10 page section regarding a specific space sector. Full length campaign book that’s well written.Alien art work looks a cheesy would be my only negative. But use your imagination. I highly recommend this set to anyone into sci fi RPG tabletop. Comes with everything you need. If you already have the core rulebook though you may want to pass, as it costs a little more and you already have base rules. 5 stars!

Great set. Definitely enough info for your group to start a campaign. I especially like the little lifting ribbon to get the books out of the box, although I do wish the presentation box sat on a bookshelf a little better.

This is a good place to start if you are new to Traveller and don't want to buy a bunch of books. There is enough here to support a campaign for you and your players.

My son enjoys it.
