A really good product as part of your home safety plan. It meets all the requirements for a domestic fire blanket perfectly well. It's easy to see, easy to extract, the instructions are fine, it's robust. But treat it as part of a fire safety plan - people need to know where it is and how to use it. It's great in a home kitchen or garage. A fire blanket is usually preferable to a fire extinguisher here as it can be easily used to smother the small size fires that incorrect use of an extinguisher can make worse. If you are in any way dealing with higher fire risks than a normal domestic household, such as a lot of hot fat or electrical or heat hazards in a home workshop, get professional advice. If the blanket is easy to reach and used promptly in the early stages of a fire, this product can nip a small fire in the bud by starving it of oxygen. If the fire is well-established, you are too late. Get out to safety and call the professionals. So make the blanket easy to see and reach from fire danger spots like a cooker. It's easy to install and has a robust ring. Hang it off a strong hook - you want to be able to rely on pulling the blanket out of the soft case in case of an emergency rather than pulling your hook out of the wall! Think at what height to install your hook - all those using the 'fire risk' unsupervised should be able to reach and pull the handles.

Although I have not used this fire blanket in anger, thankfully, I can say it looks well made and seems good value for money. One issue I did have (hence 4 stars rather than 5) was fixing it to the wall. The metal hole intended for fixing is way too big for a screw head, it would simply fall off the wall. So I had to buy some 'Penny washers' (galvanised no. 6 x 25mm that look like a large coin with a hole in the middle) to put on the screw before fixing everything to the wall. Now the blanket to secure and all is well. Incidentally, the blanket does not come with instructions or any advice as to where, in my case the kitchen, to hang it. So common sense has to prevail. The danger here, in my view, is to put it too close to the stove/cooker/hob. In the event of a fire you will instinctively step back and away from the flames, so put it on a wall a few feet away where you are out of immediate danger, but close enough to get it quickly. I found positioning it in the kitchen required some careful thought. Overall I am happy with my purchase.
