A very nice recorder in a great small package.
A very nice recorder in a great small package. One thing to be aware of is the product description says it's version 2.0 firmware but the unit I received had version 1.0 installed. You can get the upgrader program with 2.0 on Tascam's website. I do wish I had bought the package deal with the Bluetooth module because I ended up paying full price ($50!) to get it separately.

Early impressions are very favorable
I love the sound of this little lavalier. The recording quality is what you would expect of Tascam and the microphone, itself, is very impressive. It manages to capture the true sound of the voice without the nornal "chest boom" you getfrom similarly priced lavaliers. The UI suffers from the tiny screen but is fairly intuitive and the 32 bit float capability makes its use a snap. The recorder is small and light enough to hide on most talent. I need to use it some more to really get a feel for it but so far I'm extremely happy. In very windy environments the mic would benefit from a a foam pop screen or, better yet, a dead cat. Also I recorded myself in a very noisy truck cab using auto-level. It took a little while for the recorder to settle on workable level but once there the audio was as good as you can expect from an environment in which conversation requires shouting!

Excellent purchase, so glad I got it
This is an excellent audio recorder. Very easy to use and transfer files. The 32 bit float allows for easy manipulation in Audacity. You can eject the micro sd card to transfer or you can use a usb-c and set it to card reader and transfer like that.

Tascam Dr Misconception Internal date time battery
Several reviewers are NOT aware that to recharge the internal lithium cell that retains date and time, you must turn device ON while plugged to power source.(This is not regarding the AA batteries)The internal built in cell keeps time and date long time as long as chargedAny negative review on time date resetting should bear this in mind. It is in the manual but due to great simplicity to operate many don’t read manual.I bought four and use with my tascam x8Highly recommend

Great recorder… Izo software sucks to download
Excellent recorder to use in field. I record and duplicate on site recovery speakers. This recorder is a great asset to my small business. I now have bought 4 to use. The only problem was downloading the Izo software for editing. But recorders are exactly what I needed for doing both MP3 and WAV. Files on the fly. Great product, would be even better if the software was easy to down.old.

Yet another piece of junk
Yet another piece of junk from China.Microphone sometimes reads the SD card, and sometimes doesn't. I intended to use it for presentations, but I can't now because it's so unreliable. Also every time I turn it on I have to set the date and time again, which when I looked it up, is because the device has a malfunctioning internal battery. I literally haven't been able to use this once.It also says that it comes with a free software program through iZotope. When I tried entering the serial number of my Tascam to get the software, iZotope said it was already used. Piece of junk.

Fixed: Problem with memory cards and it resetting its time stamp- Read!
I really love my Tascam- I bought two, one as a backup. I had a couple of the same problems other reviewers did and have resolved those problems so wanted to leave my notes here.-For memory cards, for some reason Tascam website lists that it is compatible with some cards it doesn't actually seem to be. Make sure your card says Micro SD HC (not SDXC) and you really don't need more than 32GB since audio takes up so little space. I now have absolutely no problems with the cards being read once I follow those two rules.-For the date being reset every time you turn it on or replace batteries. You need to do two things to resolve this. First, make sure you have downloaded the Tascam software to your computer and have the latest firmware on your Tascam. Secondly, there is a tiny lithium battery within the Tascam that is enough to store the date/time. Once you've uploaded the firmware, plug it into a usb charger for a few hours to get that tiny battery fully charged.I was hesitant to get this because of it not being rechargeable, but I realized being able to replace batteries is actually better- I can just keep recording without needing another microphone if my batteries die. I just bought some rechargeable AAA's and I'm good to go with the recharge ability.-The sound on this Tascam is fantastic. I bought a Rode and a DJI lav as well and the sound on those is not very good. Tuscan's is beautiful, especially once you sweeten it up a bit in Final Cut Pro.
