The two layers of covers are nice to have, to keep the memory foam contained and protected. The outside cover can be easily removed for washing, leaving the second cover to hold the foam. The outside cover is a very soft and plush material, it is almost a shame that I need to cover them with pillow cases as they feel great next to skin. I have found that these memory foam pillows, with individual foam and silk pieces, are cooler for sleeping on that a pillow made from a molded slab of memory foam. I guess they have better air circulation moving through and between the pieces throughout the night.
