Greater sense of security. Good value.
We reinforced a shelf in our closet that was about waist high added an extra board for thickness and attached it with a carriage bolt with the washer on the inside of safe. Also, we added a motion activated light on the inside to be able to see. Hopefully it would make it harder for someone to carry it off. We couldn't attach it to the floor as we are older and it would make it difficult for us to squat down to get entrance. Setting our own combo was easy.....the safe moves a little as we punch in the combo. There is plenty of room inside for what we need.....still planning on ordering the fireproof pouch for any cash we may have on hand and our passports and other documents. Our great grandson was here over the weekend and it gave us a sense of security to know our guns were locked up. It does make noise as you punch the buttons. so if you're needing your gun for an intruder....the noise might not be beneficial for a surprise attack. The only thing is to remember to keep the handle in the open position as you retrieve whatever you're wanting because if the handle goes back to the locked position, you have to re-enter your code to be able to shut and lock the safe....So far we are very pleased with this purchase......a word of advise....the safe is quit heavy and we removed the door to be able to lift it in place, secured it with the bold and then reattach the door..

Good value, few Cons
Good , heavy safe for the money. I love the shelf’s and that it locks automatically . THE FEW CONS I have are 1. The key pad is cheap 2. The bolt did not work to secure it to the cement floor and took 2 hours until realizing it would not work and that the bolt was too short , had to go to hardware store and get a longer and better bolt 3. The key it comes with it a VERY basic key that anyone would copy, and I’m guessing all the safes have the same basic key! Besides that I love the size of the safe and thickness . I sure hope it resist fire and water like it states and that a theif would have trouble getting into it or out of the ground! If it wasn’t for a few CONS I would give is. 5/5

Better than anticipated
I've seen good and bad reviews on this safe, mine will be very positive. It arrived (about 2 hours ago) extremely well packed and arrived with absolutely no knicks, dents or scratches. It arrived looking exactly as I would expect, show room quality! It's hefty, which I expected, but I am (at 67 years old, and haven't seen the inside of a gym in many years), able to lift it and move it short distances with no real difficulty. Followed directions, very detailed manual included, put in a battery, used the factory code to open. Continued to follow instructions (watch out when entering a code: to open, you end with the pound sign, when you are setting a new code, you end it with an asterisk) to set my own code, and everything went according to plan. Again, if instructions are followed everything should go quite smoothly. One thing I like is you are not limited to a four digit code, you can set anything from 4-8 digits, I like that feature. I also like the adjustable shelf, if it had been fixed, I would have had problems getting my stuff to fit. It was mentioned that the electronic box that you enter codes on is flimsy. Yes, it's plastic, and yes, if I step on it, it will likely break. I simply can't imagine the circumstances where I would step on it. It does the job, worst case if you should manage to break it, you can simply use one of the two included keys to gain entry. Under normal usage I just can't see it being an issue. Does it meet my expectations, yes! Would I buy it again, yes!

Notes
When the battery gets to about 7.20v, the safe will not open given the correct code. Otherwise, it seems to act pretty normally. Replacing the batter restores proper function. The code is not lost with battery change. Manual states: • When the battery runs out, the red light will light on together with the green light after input the correct security code. Then you will need to replace the battery I did not remember. Pretty good safe. I wouldn't trust it for 30 minutes with a determined junkie, but it might be okay for a while in a mild house fire.

One Star
Carton is missing the mounting expansion bolt and anchor. Second part of review. I found the mounting bolt and anchor, I failed to look inside the bottom shelf. Now the real problem. After battery installation and inputting the factory code, I opened the door and proceeded to input my own code. The operation worked fine for one week, I went to open the door about the sixth time, and could not turn the handle. The three LED lights come own when I enter my code, and the door will not open. I can only guess that when all three LED's are on that means an incorrect code? I have tried many times to access the safe, all without luck. I have removed the battery and re-inserted after several hours, still no luck. I contacted Amazon and asked to speak to someone who is familiar with the safe operation, no luck! the only help I received was informing me to return the safe for credit or replacement. This unit was installed in a closet by a contractor, I'm not ready to hire him to remove the safe to return. Amazon cannot, or will not, put me in touch with the factory in order to discuss this with someone who has detailed knowledge with this product. I believe this product is cheaply constructed, and not worth the money. Replacement Safe from Amazon: Received a replacement safe from Amazon. After unpacking and insertion of battery, entering the factory code, I was able to unlock the door, but found that the door would not re-lock!! Again, faulty electronics. The locking solenoid is binding and the solenoid plunger will not engage the locking bar.

Overall pleased!
I was looking for a safe that didn’t break the bank. This safe was the heaviest safe I could find at this price point. Once secured to the floor I felt much better. This is still a cheaper safe but puts me at ease storing valuables and a handgun. I also put my valuables in a fireproof case inside the case for more protection. The keypad is easy to use and the door handle is smooth. I like the shelf and the size of the safe. The backup key doesn’t seem to fit but that might be a user error. Would definitely recommend t when on sale.

Perfect Price for the Quality
At this price I honestly didn't expect much in terms of quality when similarly sized fire resistant safes run double the price if not more, but I was pleasantly surprised and it gets the job done for my purposes. If you read through the bad reviews, a lot of them are written as if they expected to receive a Steelwater safe at this price, which is laughable. There's a reason why "you get what you pay for" is an adage. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. It's not as good quality considering the following: wiggle in the door when closed, really cheap plastic electronic keypad, sloppy fire proofing on the bottom and door (which could have been easily done better by the manufacturer), etc. but I expected this. I did end up with the code issue that others were having, and it turned out that it was the battery. Once I replaced it with a new battery my code had no problem working. I don't expect this to keep out a really determined thief, but it is enough to prevent them from running away with my valuables before the cops arrive after tripping my security system.
