Night Fall: Number 3 in series (John Corey) : DeMille, Nelson: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Brilliant book - Brilliant book by a brilliant author, would highly recommend Review: For me the Best Corey book so far!! - After finishing the lions game it was straight onto this one and I have to say this had been one of my favourite reads to date. A gripping story built round the accident of TWA flight 800. Corey gets into some very hot water in this one while he looks into a case unofficially and it is a cracking read with the usual humourers moments from Corey as you would expect. And the ending! You just have no idea until you get there! Best Corey book so far, now onto wild fire!

great story-readforfun.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and once again found De Mille to have written an exciting, funny and interesting story with some great characters. The dynamics of his main characters, working for the FBI, one as a career agent and the other ex NYPD was fun and there relationship as a married couple was enjoyable to read about. I would definately recommend this book but I did have some reservations about the ending.

Nelson DeMille at his best
Well-researched, exciting and plausible story-telling. Still waiting for some of Nelson's earlier books to come out on CD or Kindle - a fine writer - always a good read.

Brilliant from start to finish
Loved this book - nearly as good The Lions Game - If you are new to Nelson Demille "The Lions Game should be your first book - then you'll be hooked. NYPD Dectective John Corey is a great character - almost seems like we all know that guy from work.

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. I am on my fourth John Corey book by Nelson Demille, he writes a really good plot and has a great sense of humour. Maybe the stories could be described as a bit far-fetched, but all are a great read.

This was classic Corey
This is the third book in the Corey series. I first read 'The Lion' and on the evidence of that bought 'Plum Island' and 'Night Fall'. The story line is based on an event [the downing of TWA 800 shortly after take off for France from New York in the summer of 1996] that the subsequent investigation never concluded to the satisfaction of a great number of people. The plot was well developed from factual evidence with Corey, supposedly, playing a leading role in an attempt to unravel the truth. The concluding chapters came as a complete surprise, leaving the reader still guessing.

Nelson DeMille is one of the best fiction writers working today, and his thrillers always please on some level. I admit I don't understand some of the most venom filled reviews, and I wonder if they read the same book as I did or if they read it at all. I can agree that "Gold Coast" and "Up Country" are two examples of his best work, but "Night Fall" doesn't miss by much. I was wary as the plot unfolded that DeMille might make a huge faux pas and re-write history, and I suppose that because he didn't, and that the end was a bit more predictable than his usual fare some fans might feel disappointed. But beyond the set up ending I think there was more political wrangling than expected, and the main plot lacked a full and complete resolution that DeMille usually delivers. Therein lies its biggest fault. After thinking about it - I waited a week before writing this - he plotted the only ending that would make sense or could suspend the typical sense of belief fiction fans expect. I hope I haven't given away too much, but I urge readers who pick up the book after reading this to pay more attention to the details, the characterization and the political plot manipulations as the story unfolds. It reads more as a "what if" scenario, than a "this really happened" con some less talented writers would have used. DeMille remains at the top of my short list for thrillers/mysteries because he is not a book a year formulaic hack. He cares about his characters, the story and the reader and it shows. I can wait two or three years for the next book because I know it will not be more of the same, but a new experience, a fresh point of view and welcome surprises. That's what I like about genre fiction and that is what DeMille delivers, even when he stumbles a bit, he can be forgiven.

I read a lot of books in this ilk. I have enjoyed this novel as an absolute standout! I found the combination of fact with artistic license (fiction) absolutely compelling. One of the the most gripping endings I have ever read. To be completely transparent I have rated various (not many) books previously but never taken the time to actually write a review. I felt “Night Fall” deserved some words. Thank you Nelson! Regards Tim

Like all Deville reads I’ve enjoyed so far, it’s the last 50 pages that it all comes together and I read at lightning speed.
