8Bitdo M30 Bluetooth Controller for Switch, Windows and Android, 6-Button Layout for SEGA’s Classic Games

8BitDo are smashing it with retro controllers. This is a great recreation of the classic Saturn controller and I'm loving using it to play through my old collection. Although this pad is capable of wireless play, this particular order I made doesn't come with a bluetooth dongle (which I assumed it did). It works very well as a wired pad too, so either make sure you have a bluetooth dongle around, or read the decription a little better than I did if you want a wireless model.

This is awesome with the blueretro Saturn dongle. Now I'm not tethered to my console in front of the TV. Paired with a Saroo and hdmi adapter and in enjoying the sega Saturn in 2025 more than I ever did in the past. The blueretro pad configuration is incorrect in current release so make sure to custom the buttons in the webpage for accessing the dongle when not connected to the controller. This will also work great with the megadrive, but for me this is all for enjoying the Saturn. I can't remember the button you need to hold after first pairing it may be select or select and up (I forget but it's easy to find online) it you don't do this, the dpad won't work. Once you've done it once it doesn't need doing again though. Brilliant devive. Very low latency, so no noticeable lag. As far as I'm concerned it's a perfect controller. Love it.

I've been a fan of 8bitdo controllers since the SN30 Pro+ from 4 years ago. When I spotted the M30 was at a reduced price I thought I'd pick one up to replace my aging and literally creaky retrobit Mega Drive style pad. The thing is - both this Bluetooth-based one and the Xbox wired one were one sale. After a fair bit of soul searching I ended up getting both to cover all bases. This would work on PC, Mac and Switch and the other would be Xbox and PC. The pairing options on this are great. As with 8bitdo's other controllers - it's all done by holding a button and pressing start to switch the controller on in a particular mode (X-Xinput/PC, Y-Switch, A-Mac, B-Android). Note on a Mac you may have better luck in certain games pairing it in Xinput mode. On Switch - by default - the X/Y and A/B buttons work as per their button labels. This is backwards compared to the normally 'Nintendo' layout and muscle memory may be your nemesis here. Thankfully you can reverse this by holding down Select and Down for 5 seconds. This setting appears to be remembered between sessions too. On PC you can also use this controller wired (to be honest I've pretty much used my SN30 Pro+ wired from day one). The charging cable supplied is only about a metre long though so you may want a lengthier one. I am going to have to compare this M30 with the Xbox M30. The wired Xbox version features 4 shoulder buttons (and multiple physical mapping settings) compared to just 2 on this BT version - I really don't know why they omitted these. I've been a big fan of fighting games for a number of years now and got into bullet hell shmups a couple of years ago - the extra buttons would have been really useful here for macros/rewind options on the latter etc. Talking of fighting games - this brings me to my biggest complaint here. While not being a deal breaker - there is no central pivot on the d-pad! Basically - you can press all 4 directions at the same time. Thankfully the rubber membrane is good enough to direct your input quite well and you soon get a 'feel' for it (one for the OGs(!) - I could consistently 623C, 236C, 236C with Ragna the Bloodedge). The silly part here is that the wired Xbox version of this controller DOES have the pivot! At the end of the day - this is a very good controller and it serves it's purpose well enough but it could have quite easily been perfect. If you want a controller for PC and you don't mind wired I would go for the other version though. UPDATE: Just a quick note on using this on a Mac. Basically - the latency is terrible. I can't believe this is the same company that made the SN30 Pro+ (which works great on Mac). No such issues on PC or Switch oddly enough.

Love it, reminds me of the good old Sega MegaDrive/Saturn days. Ideal if your a big Street Fighter fan, that’s all I use it for

Come to finally use this controller and it won’t pair with switch totally useless. I have another which pairs fine this was for two player but is broken very disappointing!!!!!

The build quality is great, but I wouldn't recommend the Bluetooth version. I have been trying for hours to get the "Ultimate Software X" to even RECOGNISE my device so that I can customise my controller inputs. I have had it plugged in and still says "Please connect an Xbox licensed 8BitDo device" I managed to update the firmware, which seemed to recognise it was plugged in, but not the worthless software they supply? Sorry, but if I am spending money on a controller like this, I think I deserve it to function like all the other products. I found there is another app they have for their higher-end controllers, and that doesn't recognise my device either. I suggest combining the two software and removing the Ultimate Software X from the Microsoft App Store, as it often freezes and fails to launch. It's honestly such a shame. I really wanted to enjoy this controller, but in the current state of the program side of things, I'd say it's best to steer clear of this brand, as I doubt they will last much longer if this is how they handle things.

I own 2 SN30s, 2 SN30Pros, an N30, and an N30 Pro. That makes the M30 my 7th 8-bitDo controller. They make incredible controllers, better than ANY other company including Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft. This M30 is the best one yet from the controllers I've purchased from them. It has superb build quality, feels premium, and the price is great. The M30 is the definitive 6-button controller in my opinion. I couldn't be more thrilled with my purchase. Some things I love about their whole line of controllers. 1. Build quality so good it's better than the original controllers they emulate 2. excellent functionality and button placements 3. the ability to boot the device into 4 different Bluetooth modes so you can pair it to multiple devices without the need to unpair it first. 4. They are built to last If you are looking for a controller like this DO NOT HESITATE. You won't find anything even close to this good.

je recommande cette manette elle est parfaite pour jouer aux nombreux jeux type "rétro" sur switch comme the messenger, streets of rage 4,les street fighter et tout les shmups c'est tellement plus agréable de jouer à la croix sur ces jeux-ci à l'ancienne avec cette manette type saturn, j'en ai même commander une 2ème c'est pour dire, pensez à faire y+start pour la connecter en bluetooth, si vous avez du mal à la connecter y-a des tutos sur youtube.
