huh.... - I always figured chalk was chalk.... Any basic school black-board or green-board chalk should do. White - yellow - it shouldn't matter. Artist pastel chalks are probably softer and they come in more colors. Unless you know for sure that the chalk is inordinately "hard" - anything should do.

Q: Would this work for painting a car without it peeling or chipping off?

huh....?Painting a car with it would not be my fiirst "go to" application for the stuff.I put it ona kids drawing easle.I used Krylon Fusion as a base coat to bond to the plastic.Then the Chalkboard paint on top of the fusion - a couple of coats.It's still there - but:It's not outside.It doesn't get direct sunlight.It doesn't see any rain.and,It doesn't deal with freezing.A car has to cope with all that and more (salt, grit, etc.)If used on the outside of a car, there is going to be considerable differential expansion and contraction with temperature.The metal/plastics, the original auto paints - and, the Chalkboard paint are going to expand and shrink at different rates.The Chalkboard paint is more rough in texture, which to me implies porousity, which will entrap moisture and road chemicals.These variables make perdictions of durability more speculation than science.The blackboard paint would be interesting to clean - and, would hold road dirt unpredictably.It definately would not like waxing.All I can say is that mileage will vary.Initially, It should work fine.What it'll look like after the firts wash will depend on what is used to wash it with.You may have to experiment a bit - to work out the bugs.

Q: can i use chalk board paint on wood?

Although this product is not designed for this purpose, it should be suitable for wood painting

Q: is sanding required to chalk a door that has a lacquer finish?

it depends if the door has peeled paint I would say yes.
