Astro Tools 401K 0.401" "Thor Super Duty Long Barrel Air Hammer/Riveter

This air hammer is worth it's weight in gold. I purchased it because of the Torque Test Channel on YouTube and it has proved itself multiple times in just a few days of use. I stayed away from air hammers because of their price and I've been getting along fine using my 4 pound sledge and pickle fork set. After watching several videos and other technicians recommending getting an air hammer I purchased the 401K Thor. The 498 Thor was tempting, but for regular automotive work you truly cannot beat the price of this tool. It is a big air hammer but is definitely extremely well made, functions perfectly, and saves an incredible amount of time and effort.

It's powerful. I have a few air hammers, including the bigger brother to this, the 498k, which is more powerful, but bigger, harder to use, and tool choices are more limited. The bushing sold to downsize it is a little clumsy ...the 401k is a better choice. A friend has a Snap-on, the power seems identical. And it's a great deal. "Good deal" and "snap on" don't belong in the same sentence.. This has been trouble free, as have many other Astro pneumatic tools.. The trigger is real good, but a little too much squeeze results in a lot of power..if I want to be delicate (funny term for air hammer work), I use an aircraft 2x rivet gun. Just a not so powerful, very controllable 401 shank air hammer. Any powerful air hammer might be limited by the hose and fittings. I just live with it. I blip the trigger...if you hold it down, the power drops a bit, the first few hits are harder than those that follow. Anything recommending some giant compressor for impact tools is weird, they just are usually not used continuously, so it isn't a factor like it is for running a sandblaster, needle scaling a bunch of rust, grinding, even painting. If you're doing suspension work, any small compressor that can fill it's tank to 120 or so psi will run this just fine. You just may have to pause while it refills.

I am not super happy with this i wanted to give it some time to see how it works a friend of mine showed me his astro air hammer and I was impressed but this one should not be called Thor it falls short of the name it works ok but I would ha e chosen another air hammer

Dude, this thing has a ton of power behind it! It’s honestly a bit overpowered for what I usually require, but it is nice to have on hand when my smaller pneumatic hammer can’t do the job. If you watch YouTube, check out the Torque Test channel, they have done reviews on air hammers, and this one ranked very favorably, which is why I bought it. Lol

If you have ever had a stuck fastener or pin that you needed to drive out or needed to cut through some metal and didn't have room to swing a big hammer or maybe you didn't want to beat on it for 30 minutes or more. That's when you need an air hammer like this. It hits hard, like the big boys on the tool trucks, but at less than a quarter of the cost. It hit harder than the harbor freight chief (ok not a huge deal untill you factor in that it costs less than the chief does) one note is that you need to run it for a little bit and break it in before you will get all of the power out of it. This is an amazing tool and when I got it they were selling at great prices compaired to all of the competition in this class. I would recommend this air hammer to professional and home mechanics.

Astro is just the best sneaky brand in special tools and air tools. I had a heavy influence from YouTube when picking an air hammer to go with, so I decided to take the leap on the THOR, and I’m very glad I did. There’s not much this air hammer couldn’t get off for me. Plenty powerful enough for me to force out ball joints, and delicate enough to spin a stripped hex bolt free! Point and shoot, simple as that. The size is perfect, especially with the long barrel design to give yourself extra leverage and grip when in use. The ONLY thing I’d say I wish was better, was a more broader trigger. I feel like this air hammer is 0-100 very quick and it took some getting used to. But don’t be fooled, it’s very hard to dethrone this air hammer in my opinion.

Been working this thing hard and so far it’s as good or better than the snappy one, the quick connect works great.

Brilliant tool, usual good Astro quality. I've only used it a few times so far but it's as good as I all the reviews say.

For a good long time I suffered with a cheap air hammer from princess auto. I finally decided to get this beast when my old one wouldn't do the job anymore. When I first used it, I was so disappointed because it felt very weak. If you read the instructions it tells you that it doesn't give you the grunt until it been cycled about 8 times. It for sure has some grunt to it now. I even used it to help chip my concrete floor when installing my lift. Astro air tools never disappoint and this is no exception. It's not the big nasty version, but it for sure deserves the name Thor

I own three other air hammers but this one is in another realm ! It is named Thor and I think it actually came from Asgard it is so powerful. Best buy ever from Amazon , hats off to Astro tools USA you knocked it out of the park with this beast! Thankyou.

This thing is an absolute monster. I totally didn't need it, but would buy it again, just caus it's cool af. It destroyed my sidewalk testing it out, this baddie is no joke!!

It worked ok .definitely not as strong as expected. Did not last at all. Used maybe 10 times in just over a year and it's broken now
